I ejected safely remove hardware in Windows 10 after When pulling the USB3.0 cable from the case + HDD2.5" to remove it from the PC my hand hit the HDD case and it moved on the table. Did this hit the read/write heads scratch the magnetic disks? my disks are 2013 WD10JPVX-08JC3T5 and HGST HTS541010A99E662 and Seagate ST500LM030
Any hard drive these days should automatically park the heads when power to the drive is lost, so I wouldn't worry about that.
the hdd case was just a few centimeters from the PC when I removed the USB3.0 cable from the PC it came out quickly and my hand hit the case but I don't know what the speed of the 2.5" hdds + usb3.0 case is after removing the cable
I suspect the drive should be ok, if you really want to be 100% sure copy all the data off to your PC. If you can successfully do that I wouldn't worry. Keep in mind always have backups of important data regardless.
ejected safely remove hardware in Windows 10 is power lost? i not disconnect usb cable pc/enclosure case after eject windows
1) When the Windows "safely remove hardware" eject is invoked and the letter E: disappears from Windows, what type of command does Windows send to the 2.5" HDD and the HDD understands that it is time to park the heads? 2) Do the model, brand, chip of the USB3.0 enclosure case and Windows power settings have any relation to the parking of the heads of a 2.5" HDD after the Windows "safely remove hardware" eject command is completed and the letter E: disappears from the system? 3) In what year on 2.5" HDDs and in what version of Windows was parking the heads of 2.5" HDDs implemented after the Windows "safely remove hardware" eject command is completed and the letter E: disappears? even if the USB3.0 cable of the enclosure case remains connected to the PC/enclosure?
The safely remove hardware is more to stop you removing a drive when something is writing to it, so you don't end up with corrupted data. I can't give you an exact answer as to when hard drives started parking heads automatically, the mid 90s it seems based on discussion here: Hard drive parking. \ VOGONS Personally its not something i'd worry about, however if you are still worried do you follow the 321 backup rule to keep multiple copies of your data backed up safely? What is the 3-2-1 backup rule?
