How to Bypass the 3.42 Update (the noob way)

There is a Easier method of bypassing the mandatory update issued by Sony today.

This involves scrolling down you XMB and entering network setting then edit the pre-existing Primary DNS and replace with

    67.202.81.137

and if not working try do so for Secondary DNS as well.

    DONT GET PWNED BY SONY!

I highly recommend that no Backups should be played until this whole awe deal is over
I have tested this method and confirm it working.

    Kudos to the PS3 Scene
And say thanks if it helped :)

It would appear so, i didn't expect people to be able to use the PSN without updating for long.

I can see access been restored in the future with custom firmware, however I guess hacked consoles will be banned pretty quick like with Jtagged 360's.

Like with the 360 if you want homebrew and live you are going to need two consoles.

It truely is a shame that game consoles pull stunts like this when all it really does IS promote piracy. When they cut off all access from the store and the only way it is possible to get it from piracy I wonder what people will resort to...

I can see why its done, look at Xbox Live and all the cheating that goes on with Jtagged consoles and such. With so many exploitable PS3's and a hack that is so easy to do it really could ruin online play on the PSN.

It would be great if hacked consoles could still use the PSN and just not join multiplayer games, but i do understand why that would never happen.

Theres still a chance for a fix, using a proxy. PSN is very simple when compared to Xbox Live, people have made proxy servers you run on your home pc which connect to PSN, and feed the data to the PS3 to allow things like multiple downloads at once, and caching. The PS3 is tricked into thinking your PC is the PSN and it has worked well in the past. Maybe its possible they can update those to pretend there running the latest firmware? That way, hacked users can at least connect to PSN to purchase content and talk to contacts as well as upload Trophies.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

I doubt it or it probably would of been done with 3.15, which i'm still currently running. (I need to upgrade but now i'm nervous that it'll put me on 3.42 lol.) Of course now that the PS3 can run unsigned code it does open the gate to more possibilities but I see it'll be just like a JTAG console is.
