So you seem like a tech savvy lot, however I doubt you'll be able to solve my very strange problem. Basically my iPod Touch home button is broken. It still seems to make a click when I push it, there's just a lack of function anymore. Whatever the reason, I'm getting by but it's a bit annoying. I found an app (called something like iHome? I forget) which can sort of replace the home button with a slide of the finger sideways across the screen, but you need to be jailbroken to install it. Naturally, this is hard to do without the home button. So my question is, is it possible to jailbreak your ipod touch without the home button? Maybe plugging it into the computer and controlling it from there somehow? I am currently taking any and all suggestions, so just go crazy!
Have a look at this: http://www.ithinkdiff.com/jailbreak...with-spirit-untethered-for-all-devices-96712/ Easy as pie and no home button needed
Excellent! But I've instantly run into a problem with version 9.2 of itunes. I'm sure I can find an old version somewhere. Cheers, will give this a go.
Finally got it all done (yeah I'm still up) only to discover the horrible truth that the home button replacing iHome has been itself replaced with a new app called iHome that just modifies what the home button does! So now I need the original app, or another similar one... And the damn ispazio website is all in Italian. This is hopeless.
Success! I'm gonna post it here in case anyone wandering the internet needs this solution too. That instant jailbreak above installs Cydia for you anyway, so open up Cydia and search for SBSettings app, which you access by dragging your finger across the menu bar at the top. Once that's all installed, go back into Cydia and search "close" and some addon for SBSettings called something like "close button" will be the second hit (at the time of writing anyway), which you can then install, and add to the SBSettings window by clicking "more" when you run it. You need to respring all the time to see changes so don't panic if it hasn't worked right away. Thank you MasterChief you have saved me many unhappy hours.
Glad you have it all working just remember don't upgrade to iOS 4 otherwise you will loose your jailbreak. A jailbreak for iOS 4 should be released soon.
According to the U.S. Government it is now 100% legal to jailbreak an iPhone, though of course this doesn't change the fact of voiding the warranty, just found it funny.
