A few years ago I sold my other XBOX 1 to a friend of mine, and a few days ago I visited him again. But he had no longer the XBOX 1! So I asked him why he did his XBOX 1 away. He had troubles with the DVD drive and he asked a friend of him to put in a new DVD drive into the XBOX! But I told him that that was impossible, the XBOX would no longer read the discs cuz you have to have a special DVD drive for the XBOX! But he insisted that it would work... (he has several original XBOX 1 games) Was I right on the point that he - instead of fixing the old XBOX by a friend - had to call microsoft on the issue? So, in other words: did he 'threw away' a very good XBOX? (the DVD player of the XBOX had trouble with the tray in which you put the DVD)
Yes as you can swap the Xbox DVD drive for a standard PC drive - Xbox-Scene Tutorial: Connect a normal PC DVD-drive on your Xbox It will require the Xbox to be modded, but a modded Xbox is a 100 times more useful than one that can only play games! You can use Xbox Media Center for a start - Skins | XBMC Tell him he threw away a very good media centre
