I have just witnessed the new trailer for a level in MW2. The game has apparently been leaked, and this level has caused quite a bit of controversy. Infinity Ward has taken the video off of YouTube and all other sites that were hosting it. I am not going to post it for that reason although you can watch it here at LiveLeak.

I will discuss the video here but beware it will have spoilers so if you click the spoiler button, you do it on your own will ;). You have been warned, now let's get to it.

The video is the gameplay of a mission in the campaign where you paly a CIA agent that is undercover as a terrorist. The mission involves the terrorist group massacring an entire airport. The thing that cause the most controversy is that the player actually gets to fire upon the civilians and murder them in cold blood. The video left me pretty speechless because it is quite an eye-opener. The level starts with you and some other terrorists opening fire on a large group of civilians. When it happens, it is pretty intense. The scene that left me the most speechless is when the terrorists are on a bridge that connects the two airport buildings, and they are opening fire on another group of people that are standing outside the airport. The whole level looks really amazing and pretty horrific. Do yourself a favor and watch the video. I can see the media controversy that this is going to cause. In defense of Infinity Ward, stuff like this does indeed happen in the world. And in defense of everyone that is going to be bothered by this video, I can see why they may say this is too violent. It is scenes like this that justify why kids should not be playing this game. This is why parents should not buy their kids this game.

Well if you have seen the video, or read the spoiler information, what are your thoughts?

To be honest, I'm not offended by what's in that video but I see why you would be. It is in bad taste and you can't really deny that but are people more shocked by this because it's about shooting unarmed civilians, shooting up an airport or both?

That's not a good justification at all.

I don't think that the video contains a major spoiler so I've posted my thoughts on the plot below. It's not in the spoiler tags so if you don’t want to know anything about it stop reading here.

The whole plot for this scenario is a major fault by it's self. A CIA agent is undercover as a terrorist, and to maintain his cover he happily goes along with shooting up an airport and killing everyone around him? What about the part where he informs his superiors at the CIA that an impending terrorist attack is about to take place so they can stop the terrorists before it happens?

Personally, I am not bothered by the video or gameplay at all. You cannot deny that this does happen, and has happened in the world and whether people like it or not, terrorism is a major issue in the world. I can honestly say that had I been in the CIA agent's position, I may ahve done the same thing. There really wouldn't be a choice. Who's to say that by doing what they did in the game, may not save many other lives down the road? I do think that Infinity Ward captured the brutality of an incident like this and I think that is what is going to shock people the most as you said. The gameplay is a little to close to home for some people.
