The french website 01.net has posted perhaps what is the most complete story so far on the successor of the Wii.

They have a very reliable source that previously told them about the specs of the Sony NGP.
Here are the bullet points. Most of them have already been reported by other sites, but here goes :

• the console is codenamed "Project Café"
• will be introduced at E3 2011
• architecture is very similar to the Xbox 360; the Café is a bit more powerful than the 360
• porting current xbox 360 titles to the Café should be very easy
• should be retro-compatible with GameCube and Wii games, and support all Wii peripherals
• Specs : CPU is custom IBM PowerPC with three cores, GPU should be an ATI from the R700 family, with a shader unit at version 4.1. Ram should be at least 512 Mb.
• the controller is a touch tablet, with moderate graphic output (appears to be sub-HD, so nothing comparable to an Ipad, for example.)
• controller specs : 6-inch screen, single touch (so no multitouch, it seems), front camera, acts as a wii sensor bar, has a d-pad, two bumpers, two triggers, possibly more.
• should be released in June of 2012 (for Japan ?), and holiday season (in the West ?)
• there is another big surprise they can't talk about just yet

IGN's news director Jim Reilly just dropped a few bits of new information on the new Nintendo system's controller.

This new information came via Reilly's Twitter account. His first tweet said "There will be first and third party 'Wii 2' games at E3. No clue if they'll be playable."

This was quickly followed by two more updates, "Dual analog sticks on the controller. Can stream game content from the console. Not sure if it'll be full games, mini-games, or apps." and "New Nintendo controller allows players to stream entire games to the device from the console -- like a miniature television."

When some of his followers questioned the validity of the claims he responded, "No, I'm not trolling. Calm down. If it's on the site it's legit info we heard."

We checked the last update to the IGN story, and it echoed his comments about the game streaming to the controller, but did not mention the dual analog sticks or "Wii 2" games being at E3. We'll keep an eye out for further updates

Insider offers more detail on the widely speculated controller

The controller for Nintendo’s new home console includes a front-facing camera system, a person close to the matter has told Develop.
The source also confirmed some, though not all, of the controller details that are already in circulation.
The new Nintendo console – widely dubbed the ‘Wii 2’ – will officially be unveiled at E3 in June, Nintendo said.
Its controller has for weeks been at the centre of intense speculation, and Develop understands Nintendo is not showing the tech to all development partners in a bid to curb leaks.
An insider said the Wii 2 pad features a front-facing camera that can be used for in-game images. The person also corroborated a number of well-referenced rumours, such as the controller features a six-inch touch-screen, “possibly with a stylus”, as well as a standard button layout.


Develop could not obtain details of the Wii 2’s hardware specifications.
News site IGN recently claimed Nintendo would team with AMD to manufacture a graphics processor featuring a custom version of the R700 architecture.
The CPU is alleged to be a custom-built, triple-core IBM PowerPC chip.

The system will be capable of supporting 1080p HD display as well as stereoscopic 3D, according to IGN’s sources.
Develop’s source elsewhere speculated – but was not claiming to know – that Nintendo’s 3DS handheld could act as a replacement controller.
“The functions are the same,” the source said. “It is a standard wireless controller added with a front-facing camera and touch screen. That sounds far too much like a 3DS to me. But I can’t confirm this, Nintendo is being very cautious about the details.”

Very cool lol about time Nintendo does something really they are on the low end of game systems the Wii does HD just the lowest HD settings but technically its HD lol

Personally, I'd be happy enough if they'd release the same Wii again, but then with HD support so that it can render all Wii games (old or new) in 720 or 1080p.

But the idea that appears to be implemented here would be nice as well. I mean, are they going to bring console AND handheld gaming together under one system? Do want!

One word. Price. Sure, I'll be excited, but features don't matter if you can't afford the system. If this thing isn't $300 or less, I'm not getting it any time soon

seeing how all game systems have gotten cheaper over time I'm sure Nintendo will do the $200-$300 price range
