What is a good type of computer technology to research and write a short paper on?

I need to "Research a type of COMPUTER technology" and "describe the technology you have found. Be sure to include a description of what the technology does, as well as other information that you found to be helpful (or not) regarding the technology."
I am having a hard time deciding what to write it on. Any suggestions?

Write about the Central processing unit?

As its basically the brain of the computer you will not be short of things to write about for it.

I think you should write about hard drives. There's plenty of information out there that's pretty basic to understand, and you can discuss the downsizing of sectors.
