Hi guys I am new to this site, and am hoping to get help with a new xbox360 hard disk i purchased. I brought it from www.trademe.co.nz a new zealand trading site, and it was sold as a new item to me. I plugged it in and it came up under memory section as unformatted, and when i format it still says un formatted. I ried to transfer some files from my xbox internal memory to it and it says its not configured for xbox 360 and do i want to configure, when i select yes it goes through the process for about 4 mins then says unable to complete.
I got in touch with the person who i brought it off and sent it back, he then sent me anther one saying its been tested and working , but when i tried that one it did the exact same thing. He has now said its my transfer cable which has caused the problem and the hard drive is not faulty. He now will not refund my money
so I have opened my hard disk and found its a Hitachi 5k320-250, (model HTS543225L9A300)
I was going to follow the guide on here to flash it, but thats only for WD drives if i am correct.
Can someone help me PLEASE What can i do. I have a 20 Gb hard disk that is working fine on my xbox.

Your problem is the transfer cable(usb),do not format these drives connected this way,it corrupts the file-system of the xbox hard drive.
Only format hard drives using the hdd enclosure(mounts on top of xbox360)

I'm not sure what you can do with this hard drive, there are ways to fix this but its not automatic, maybe you can sell it(hard drive only) to someone to use in a computer.

I didnt use the transfer cable to format i simply plugged the hard disk in as you said using the mounts on top of the xbox and it said in the memory section un formatted, and i formatted that way.

I have been having the same exact troubles. I dont have any data transfer cable, I just put the hdd in my pc and use hddhackr v1.25

Could it possibly be the wires inside the hard drive that connect to the sata plugs on the Hard drive?

That is my only guess, cause I have pulled the hard drive apart several times, and followed that same guide you posted a link to.

Mine will sometimes show the storage device, and some times it wont.

But everytime I format it, I get the same message "unformatted".
