When I got home from work tonight I could not connect to my wireless network from my laptop. The router and network are working fine, but my laptop cannot detect any wireless networks. I tried restarting the computer and doing a system restore back to a time when it was working fine, but nothing helped. I then uninstalled the wireless adaptor built in to the laptop and tried to reinstall it. I was able to reinstall it, but it still will not detect any wireless networks. Any ideas on what the issue may be? I cannot figure the problem out. I should also mention that my driver is updated for the wiress network adaptor. I followed the troubleshooting program from Windows but it could not help. Any help from you guys would be much appreciated.
Silly question but do you have a button on the laptop that enables / disables the wireless network connection, my laptop has one of these right at the front which you could easily knock without knowing, The wireless connection would still be there it would just never find any networks.
No switch to be found. I looked at the adaptor's settings and it says that the radio is on and all the settings are set to where they should be.
If your wireless adapter is on and able to pick up networks then the only other thing I can think of is to try and reset your router. My router dies often, sometimes it even works but the wifi just stops working on it. Even though most the of settings are at default. I know thats probably not the best suggestion in the world but it wouldn't hurt to try.
It's not the router, I already reset it. All of my other devices can connect just not my laptop. I double checked the network settings on my laptop and noticed that the network address is blank and not set. Could that be the problem?
Not too sure what this Network Address refers to, if it's the MAC address, then that being there is a very bad thing, it's most likely the IP address however. But you should try the general fix, grab the drivers from the manufacturers website, uninstall your wireless adapter under device manager, and the reinstall with the drivers from the manufacturer. Also, if you think it might be a hardware issue, try booting an ubuntu LiveCD and see if the wireless works there.
Well everyone I feel like an idiot. I did not notice that my laptop has a button that turns my wifi on and off. I must have hit it when I was trying to hit the mute button . O well, just glad to have the internet working again on the laptop. Glad to be back!
