So when I start up my 360, it makes a loud whirring noise but continues to run fine. It does it usually every time I start it, but not always. The sound goes away usually when I load a disc to play and play it for a while. Anyone have any ideas? I hope there is no problem with it but if there is, it's still in warranty until November so that would be alright. But then it would be my luck that Microsoft may send back a refurbished console and not my original. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks guys.
if you hav warranty then i'd use it. if you try to fix it yourself you'll probably void the warranty.
When it seems to damage your discs or something to that matter, then just use the warranty. Mine made horrible sounds like that but still played decent. When ever I tapped the top of it, it would stop making the sound but it would come back. Then a few months later when I turned on my Xbox, I played CastlevaniaOTN for five minutes then green bars went down the screen like it was the matrix. I turned it off and back on and it had the E74 Error! Woohoo!
My 360 which is a launch console sounds like a jumbo jet! The noise it makes is like a whirling noise too and gets louder and louder. As it’s out of warranty I’ve taken it apart and cleaned all the dust out which doesn’t make a difference so I’m guessing the fans have just had it. I’ve seen some pc’s where the fan makes a whirling noise when first powered on but then goes away after a couple of minutes. If it’s still bothering you closer to the time when your warranty is running out perhaps send it back just for your own piece of mind, I did this, got the same console back, it was better for a while but now it’s just as bad as before.
Keep your warranty up to date. If you get RRROD, 3 of red rings of death, you're covered. My launch Elite got RRROD and they sent a refurb, looked new and very quite and doesn't get hot. Also you might want to install your game to the harddrive.
