I download songs all of the time, granted it's mostly file sharing but still. Just as long as we keep the site legal!
Yes i can think of a few lol, not everyone shouts about it tho. I agree, at some point i bet everyones downloaded something or been sent a file over msn even if its just an mp3. Good choice o2 / Bethere are supposed to be the best for ADSL, I belive o2 is Bethere now so you carnt really go wrong with that choice The upload plus looks nice too, up to 2.5mbps up if you live close enough to the exchange.
I've paid for some serious bandwidth, I have a 90GB download limit every month and if I go over I'm only reduced to 256kbps instead of the 64kbps on most standard plans. I've also teamed my wired and wireless NIC's to increase the bandwidth to my main PC, the kids PC gets about 3/4 of the speed posted above as it's only wired. What's really cool is the Aussie gov't is looking to roll out fibre to home over the next couple of years, so our bandwidth will increase again, and I'll have to look at upgrading my router to gigabit.
Would love to get fiber to home in the UK too, the governments aim is to have everyone in the UK on atleast 2mbit internet by 2012 so im not exactly sure if we will see fiber to home anytime in the near future. Would be kinda hard with a 90gb a month cap, in a house of 4 we have used over 500gb in the last 30days. We have been going crazy with HD TV shows latley though, usually we use around 150-200gb a month.
See this is where Australian ISP's fail, the max cap available in Australia is 200GB, but it's limited, with like 50GB during "peak" times, and the rest off peak. This means that from like 8AM till 2AM you're limited to the 50GB, then you have 6 hrs per day to try and download the other 150GB. There is another ISP that provides unlimited off peak, but they limit to 5hrs per day, and to top it all off because everyone with different ISP's are all limited to similar times, you're stuffed for trying to download during the "off peak" times. So I went with a 90GB plan with no peaks or off peaks, just 90GB, it's more expensive than the 200GB plan, but worth it, knowing I get faster downloads, no times to "plan" my downloads, and if I hit my 90GB I'm not crippled by dialup speeds. There are also 2 or 3 ISP's that count uploads in to your monthly limit, mind you the only people that use these are older people, young women, and people who don't know what a download is
Lets switch internet companies. I may soon be switching from this horrible DSL internet to Fiber Optic. Meaning I'll be getting around 50Mb/s. I can only hope, it depends how much they want to charge me.
Them caps do sound pretty bad, I can see why the 90gb cap would be more appealing. Sounds like on most plans you can only use the internet when you should be sleeping. Over here ISP’s are starting to “traffic shape” basically if you download so much in a certain time frame your internet speed gets cut, in my case its from 20mbit to 5mbit if I download more than 7gb between 8am and 4pm and more than 3gb between 4pm and 11pm. Overnight you can basically download 50gb if you wanted, there no set limit to what you can download in a month. Although some ISP’s do that. I would love that upload speed!
Im on skys free internet which has a 2gb download limit lmao but I go way, way over and they charge me nothing HMmmm..
