to fix it you will have to open your 360 and download the LT+ (use google to find it) for your dvd drive and hook it to your PC via sata and get your dvd drive key and then reflash the drive with the new firmware and that should take care of it failing the AP2.5 check this is the site for LT+ iXtreme LT+ Lite Touch Firmware Flashing - Don't get banned on Xbox Live they also have guilds on there for flashing the drive

nope you have to open the xbox there is no other way because the drive has to be hooked to the PC and the only way to do that is to open it and if its already flashed that means its already been opened at least once so no warrenty on it anyways

here is a link to the download page for the LT+ 1.1 with AP2.5 IXtreme LT+ 1.1 Lite Touch Firmware Download w/ AP25 Support : iXtreme LT Lite Touch Download
here is a link to the guild Flashing Benq VAD6038 drive Tutorial : Xbox 360 Tutorials
Instead of the adapter they use in it if you leave the power hooked to you 360 from the xbox and just hook the sata cable to the PC and flash the same YOU MUST MAKE SURE YOUR 360 IS NOT ONLINE BEFORE YOU TURN IT ON WITH OUT THE DVD DRIVE UNHOOKED OR ITS A INSTANT BAN
there site is all about flashing all the different drive so they have alot of info on it

you have to pull the front up to pop the first 2 tabs then the other 4 you have to have a small screw driver or something with a point that will fit in the holes on the side to push the tabs as you pull it

risk with what if you mean to take the case off no. If you mean flashing the DVD drive yes really you always take a risk with a flashed drive or flashing can be a risk (of being banned or not getting the Key right)
when you pop the case there will only be 6 screw's to take out to remove the top half the case leave the motherboard screwed in because you dont need to miss with that to do the dvd drive

Since its the hard drive you can take and hook it to the PC and reformat to NFTS or unpartition the hard drive and leave it in a format the Xbox wont read and reformat with the xbox Ive had good luck doing that
