I have numerous games now that I want to backup, but need to know what the best application would be to create an ISO of the original Xbox 360 DVD's would be???
You would use Xbox Backup Creator and an Xbox360 dvd drive with 0800 firmware on it connected to your PC via sata, Within a week or two a new 0800 (ripping) firmware for Benq drives, and new Xbox Backup Creator will be coming out. Your best bet is to wait for them. XBC is actually very easy to use, and ABGX360 is an easy to use tool to verify your images. So your "shopping list" should be: A benq xbox360 drive 0800 firmware for it (when it arrives) ABGX360 (abgx360.net) A sata connection on your computer, and spare sata cable A way to power your 360 dvd drive for PC usage Once you have those ready, you should be good to go. If you still need help then, let us know.
To power your 360 DVD drive you could use your console, which is not really recommended because most PC's use a real earth ground while 360's use a floating point ground. The differences in ground could cause extra current to flow across the SATA line and damage your 360 dvd drive, or motherboard. The 360 also flags every time the console is powered on with no dvd drive connected to the SATA port in the secdata files on your nand. You could also buy a connectivity kit from team maxmumus or xecuter. They're really meant for modding drives, but can easily be used to backup your own retails. Or you could go the extreme method and modify a PC or other power supply to supply the needed voltage. This is what I did since I had a spare PSU around and wanted it to work for the 360. This method isn't for anyone who is lacking in soldering and other electronics experience. Kreon drives can be used for ripping as well, but they haven't had a firmware update for a long long time. The firmware is missing some of the critical features for copying the security features from a game disk to a disk image. A kreon drive is just a specific model DVD drive (a few samsung models iirc) that use a modified firmware to allow them to partially rip 360 games. This method is not recommended, as the rips are missing key parts of the disk security, which could make your games unplayable.
