I'd like to download the Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow DLC installer and Lockdown and Critical Hour patches for Xbox 1.

I know Microsoft disconnected the Xbox 1 servers in April 2010. 8o| Black Arrow is officially backwards compatible with Xbox 360, but technically has many issues, such as severe slowdown during the campaign, which is all I play. So there goes transferring the Rainbow Six data from my PC to Xbox 360 hard drive. I looked into XBConnect, but it requires a broadband connection and I'm a dial-up user. Is XBC even capable of doing what I want? Could I remove the Xbox hard drive and connect it to my PC and transfer the DLC to it? If so, how? Or am I out of luck?

The only way to get DLC to work on your 360 currently is to have a JTAG or freeBoot console. Just moving the files from your xbox to 360 wont work because the DLC needs to be signed.

You can get it working on a modded xbox1 easily enough, or on a freeBoot 360. But a non modded, or firmware modded 360 aren't able to run DLC from other consoles.

Can't I remove the Xbox hard drive, connect it to my PC, transfer the files from my PC to the Xbox hard drive, then reinstall the hard drive in the Xbox? As I said, I can't use the Xbox 360 to play Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow because the game has issues in emulation mode.

No, because the DLC wont be signed to the destination xbox. The DLC is locked to whatever console it was originally downloaded on. You can softmod your xbox and run the Rainbow Six 3 Black Arrow DLC installer to sign the DLC to your xbox though.

Awesome! Tell me how? What is a soft mod? Does it have any risk of permanently corrupting the Xbox? Can the soft mod be uninstalled after the DLC is installed on the Xbox? If I leave the soft mod installed on the Xbox, can it cause game errors?

Yes it can be un done after, although you might not want to once you see all the amazing things your Xbox can then do!

It will cause no errors what so ever if you read and understand what you are doing, think of it as unlocking your Xbox to do many amazing things not even the 360 can do.

Its worth modding it for XBMC for Xbox alone:

Okay, now I'm nervously excited. What are a few things the Xbox can do the 360 can't?

Watch YouTube videos, use the BBC iPlayer (UK only), you can also use various other online services depending where your located.

You can emulate many classic consoles and computers, such as: the Sega Megadrive, Snes, Gameboy Advance, Amiga, Commodore 64, Nintendo 64, Atari, Playstation... and many more!

XBMC will play just about any media file except something that is HD, so your old Xbox makes a fantastic media center.

Run Linux and more i've probably forgot.

And of course what you want to do, re sign DLC with Harcrofts excellent installers.

You can do this in two ways, one way you will need to open the Xbox, the other will not require you to do so.

If you dont want to open the Xbox you can use a game save exploit in either 007 James Bond, Machassult or Splintercell.

You basically need some way of getting a special save game on to a memory card, this could be done by buying an action reply, or if you have a friend with a modded Xbox he can copy the savegame to a memory card for you (and save you buying an action replay).

Once you have the hacked save on the memory card its basically a case loading the save and following a few on screen instructions.

The other way is to open the Xbox and hot swap the hard drive with the PC, not done that myself but i could probably find you a guide online.
