It has been very quiet in cityworld as of late. Not only because the lack of work being done. But also because people have started to build Cities and villages and towns in freebuild. They cannoy charge people for their plots but they can however give plots out to people.

This typ of situation defeats the purpose of having 2 Citys in a seperate world. And it is a tremendous downside on the iConomy (or is it economy dont know the plugin name).

    My suggestion:
    - Make Freebuild alot smaller.
    - A select few of the towns and villages build. Transfer them to cityworld as surrounding towns or villages around our cities. Like finland is right now in Cityworld.
    - No more cities, towns or villages in freebuild.
    - Try and get people to join one of the cities at some point.
    - Give people a reward for joining a city. For example a command they can use.

This would only stimulate the iConomy and cityworld aswell.

Well, you are right that people stop try to live in citys, maybe its because the big restrictions the citys have or its due to the prices...
    honestly, I have no idea

But if we disallowed villages, towns w/e and made freebuild restricted of what you are going to be allowed to do we will also be more restricted as a server, and people who already have put effort in their towns, villages and that sort of things will lose their hardwork.

I do understand how you feel as you are the head of Mykenai, but I dont like the idea of making the server more restricted.

But how ever there will be no decision until all in the admin crew have discussed this.

The admins and I have discussed this problem a couple of times and if I remember correctly, we had come to conclusion on attempting to regulate the villages while giving them a little more power. However, until some other things come into the works, I can't say much more about it.

So, yes, we've acknowledged that it's a problem (especially the village "shops" that have appeared), and yes we're taking steps to handle it. Does this satisfy your request?

I do think Village Shops need to go however. We have a City Neutral Shopping area for city and non city players, including at least for the next month or so easy access via the /warp market command. I've also set a broadcast for it.
If people come across players and shops as such, please notify the players that chest shops are free in the proper place. If they don't listen any Admin should force the matter.

Regarding normal villages, its difficult. Some players do want to build togeather and we need to allow that. What we need to do is stop them when they get to the stage of inviting people they don't know into there little city which takes away players from proper cities.

    Why make freebuild smaller?
And the city's are so expensife,
Someone said they were goin to make the city's more attractive,
Then i thought: How would you do that when a piece of land costs 200 coins?
We dont all have that much money,
i think freebuild city's should be legit.
    just because its freebuild.
Why does the server have a freebuild if we cant build what we want anyway?

Because cities in freebuild are prone to grief and corruption and it's something us admins don't want to deal with.
We want the cities in cityworld where we can region them and monitor the progress of each city.

And last I checked, Mykenai had very affordable plots even to those who had blown below 30 coins. So no, CityWorld has never cost, at minimum, 200 coins. That's only if you wanted to join City17 and nobody is forcing you to do that. Given that you all start with 50 coins, you can definitely afford a Mykenai house, you just refuse to buy one because you think your efforts in freebuild are worth it.

You can build what you want, but when you start building cities and trading for plots in this city or creating shops in your city, then it becomes problem. Not only are you undermining the market we're trying very hard to unify and maintain, your also making yourself a target for griefing and the petty disputes players tend to come across where they don't want a player in their town anymore. (FYI if you don't want a person in your town any longer, that's tough shit -- since it IS freebuild and you did allow them to build there, they are not obligated to move out and can stay as they wish)

In addition to what Skeven said, there's been a lot of time and effort put into the idea and the execution of Cityworld by the entire admin team and various players. Yet the place was pretty much extinct because people were rampantly building freebuild villages and actively recruiting new and old players - by my count, there's at least half a dozen active ones, maybe up to a dozen or more total. These villages offer little to no extra functionality, and no admin support, whereas there is a lot of work going on in Cityworld which does add functionality - like the market area - that would be going to waste otherwise.

The idea behind Cityworld is to have a limited number of urban centres where players congregate, offering them increased functionality and gameplay over areas like Freebuild and the Wilderness. The cities would act as a binding agent, and a (mostly) friendly rivalry between the two cities would add competitive value, possibly bringing many players together in projects and other endeavours (like PvP wars) in a way that would not be possible otherwise. Atlantis showed that one single city attracted players from all over the server, although the sheer size made it impossible to organise, and a laissez-faire attitude towards the city's design and layout early in its existence led to the city being very awkwardly laid out and hard to navigate towards the end. Its market also pioneered the chest shop and building shop concept on this server, and showed it to work rather well. The fragmentation of the playerbase into multifarious villages and towns in Freebuild has negated all of that, leading to a vast mass of disenfranchised players with antagonistic attitudes towards the cities based on biased, skewed or outright false knowledge, assumptions and rumours.

Cityworld is not without its flaws, I will be the first to admit that. There are many elements to it, and its history, that have been poorly managed by whoever was in charge at the time, which has marred the image of the cities in the eyes of the players at large to a grossly exaggerated extent. The cities do work, and even now provide a solid base of operations for anyone, and allow citizens to show their skill at designing and building a functional, attractive house. Furthermore, the admin team is working on making the cities more attractive to live in, adding functionality - like the market zone - and planning out the future of Cityworld.

As for villages being legitimate because it's Freebuild, I will say this: There are rules as to what you can and can't build in Freebuild. One of these is that while villages are allowed at this point, it is against the rules to advertise and draw in new players you don't already know. As always, if you follow the rules, everything's fine. If you break them, there will be consequences. That is all.

I think Player controlled towns are much more lively and are fun to be in. Players should have more freedom to do things in freebuild and i don't think city world is all that important though, its mostly dead and if we got rid of the world or maybe moved C17 somehow? or possibly allow people to buy large amounts of land for towns in city world and may start their own villages and trade with others? Its like a win-win because it can be a protected village zone and its controlled by normal players and they make their own rules. Players need more freedom when it comes to living together and making/living in towns. So we should basically make city world larger and sell large areas of land (minimum possibly 100x100 ) so players may have complete freedom to make their towns. I dont think plots for the small towns should be used and the leaders may make plots but they wont be individually protected but the whole town will be. lastly the large town areas that will be sold should not be flattened to have a natural look and make players work hard for their towns and flatten as they please. I hope this is added to the server because i truly think this is needed.

One idea I had to try and take everyones feedback into account. with this mykenai or whatever its called (The city that everyone is doing little peices on) is a 'Free Plot' system.

So you pay for a plot size, 20 coins per 10x10 so like 10x20 would be 40 coins and so fourth. Then instead of having some Admin force you onto a plot, you can pick anywhere within the residental land (which is a rather big area, the size of C17 just for residental) and build, providing you stay within the space allocated that you paid for. that way, users are free to build on the landscape where they want (theres hills, cliffs, flat bits and so fourth) and friends can build right next to eachother. Then once they have built it, there in charge of linking there homes to the road network.

So basically for this to work, we just plot a few main roads, and from then on, allow users to do what they want. Having plot costs low (20 coins for the basic 10x10!) which should bring more people into City World and turn Mykenai into more of a massive island of villages and houses for the players.

    Thoughts?

That does sound like it combines the best of both worlds. You could have small, impromptu communities, like the Freebuild villages, and still have the coherence and organisation of a city.

It sounds like a good idea that the players themselves could have hill's or flat land to build on, the only problem is if they can choose wherever, then it would get very cluttered and it would start to get huge gaps in between each plots. Therefore not using the maximum space of the city. Later on the city would have huge gaps in between each and every plot but if there were plots sectioned on different parts of land like, mountain district, each district would have sectioned plots but also have the land that the players wish to build on, also maximizing the use of space allowing more players to join the city and making it easier to control.
