Hey guys, I have a PS3 Slim 250 GB with the FW 4.11 (I think it's this one I have 'cos I haven't boot up my PS3 in a while). So my question, I read elsewhere it's possible to turn the PS3 to a Free Region Blu-ray Player but the software itself has to be manually modified with newer Blu-rays, or have things changed for the better? It really sucks PS3 has useless features and it's not even Free Region with BD/DVDs. x_x Btw, all Digiex users, thank you so much for the awesome Xbox 360 digital content shared (themes, gamer pictures, voice app), if it's not on the Marketplace then the place to look for is in Digiex!
I'm not honestly up to date with things in the PS3 scene, however i believe you can only do this on a homebrew enabled PS3 on firmware 3.55: Region Free Blu-Ray Playback on PS3 - PSHomebrew I guess you could always copy the Blu-ray, however thats not really an ideal solution i know. My PS3 is not even able to play Blu-rays, it had the Blu-ray drive changed before i got it and lost the licence to play them. Tried a fix for it however as i dont know the last Blu-ray it played (if any) ive not been able to make much use of it! I got it for £65 so cant complain at all, great for playing the PS3 exclusives.
Say, if I wanted to downgrade the firmware, would it be possible? I used to upgrade and downgrade with PSPs but not any more, and it isn't the same as PS3.
It's possible to downgrade and upgrade with an E3 Flasher or ProgSkeet flasher. If you wanted to swap from 3.55 to 4.11 you would need to HDDs to swap from one to another. It's pretty expensive to do too.
