Hi. Thank you for this detailed guide. Found my old PSP Go in the attic and this helped breathe some new life into it. So far I've been using FastRecovery, but felt like permanently installing the CFW. Just wanted to make sure I'm all good. Below is a screenshot from PSP Ident.

    Can I permanently flash it?
Also, seeing that the emulators pack is dated 2014, maybe there are newer packs? I just have an obsession with latest versions.
    Thank you. :)

You can't permanently flash a PSP Go following this tutorial.

However it should be possible to downgrade a PSP Go to 6.20 which can permanently flash CFW. You also might want to look in to the 6.61 Infinity CFW, which should be able to be permanently flashed to all PSP with the exception of the Street (E1000).

That is beyond the scope of this tutorial though, this is more aimed at getting anyone with a PSP up and running with homebrew, regardless of the PSP / firmware version as easily / safely as possible.

If you are using a certain emulator you could Google and see if a more up to date version exists. I've honestly not really used my PSP in a long time now. I just try and help out as and where I can these days.

    Hi there,

some help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to this guide I have permanently flashed my psp 1000 to 6.60 Pro-C2 with no issues.

Unfortunately I have been unable to get any ISO's to work, as all are showing as corrupted data.

I have downloaded an assortment of zipped iso games/files which I am extracting with 7zip and placing in an ISO folder within the GAME folder on my memory stick.

The problem for me is that I'm not sure if this is the correct place to put them as there is conflicting information (at least to my noob brain) within this thread.

The guide on page one is fantastic, but it only goes as far as modding the psp. It doesn't explain how to correctly add and play ISO's, or use and add games for the other system emulators.

This is my first post on the site, so any useful links, or an idiot proof step by step would be amazing,

    thanks.

ISO's go on the Memory Stick in a folder called "ISO", you should then be able to load them from the Games / Memory Stick section.

You can only put ISO or CSO (Compressed ISO's) in this folder, nothing else.

Homebrew apps / emulators go in the PSP > Game folder inside a folder with the homebrew applications name. So for example PSP > Game > GBA (files for the emulator would be in the GBA folder)

I'll try get some screenshots added of where things should go after modding, however as i've described above is correct.

    Many thanks for the reply.

I shall crack on and attempt to add some Megadrive/Genesis, NeoGeo and NES emulators.

I finally got my ISO's to work after moving my ISO folder to the root ? Of my memory stick i.e. not in the PSP>GAME folder.

All is good other than the files - mainly retro arcade compilations - filling up my 16gb micro sd very quickly.

Is there any way to compress an ISO to a CSO for extra space?

Yes, see my tutorial on How to rip and compress your PSP UMD games. As you have the ISO already simply skip to the part on compressing the game with UMD Gen.

Most games you can compress with a compression value of 9, the only games I ever remember having problems with compressing are the GTA games.

    Amazing. Thank you.

Got the emulators working too - after downloading some updated versions - so very happy.

I just have one last issue.

Not sure if you're aware, but the version of Pro-CFW linked in your guide is outdated and contains a bug that prevents PS1/PSX games from launching.

An updated version was released called PRO-C fix 3 (I think the most recent version was released in 2015) which rectified the issue.

Thing is I'm not sure how to safely update my custom firmware because I permently flashed my psp.

Aware this is a big ask; I get the impression you dont use your psp anymore, but some advice on fixing this issue as safely as possible would be invaluable.

    Thanks again.

I've uploaded the latest modded PRO firmware to Digiex by Yoti which fixes the PS1 issues and adds a few other features by the looks of it.

Download the latest PSP Custom Firmware PRO-C2 (14-02-2015) + Yoti mod for your PSP's firmware version
    • Extract the PROUPDATE folder and place it on your PSP memory stick under PSP > GAME
    • Load the updater
    • Press Left Shoulder button + X to reinstall the CFW.

    Thanks once again.

So this will just overwrite my current firmware and my psp will still be permenantly flashed? I dont need to restore factory first and reinstall the new CFW?

Sorry to keep asking questions - these will be my last - but when I tried to research this myself there was a lot of confusion and conflicting information online.

Don't want to brick my psp.

Yup just download the version that is correct for your PSP version, no need to remove anything first.

My system software now says : 6.60 PROMOD-C2p

    Is that correct?

[EDIT] PS1 games are now working, and it's still flashed after a psp reboot.

    Thank you sir.

Had a quick question for you. I've got a psp3001 (model 04G) I've had for over 10 years that is running 6.20 pro-c2 permanent. I hacked it when I was in Afghanistan in 2010-2011. My question is should I upgrade to 6.60 pro cfw is there any benefit over 6.20 pro c2? Thanks for your continued contributions to the psp modding community!

The only real benefit is a few games might work which don't on 6.20. However you have permanent CFW which is not possible on later firmwares for PSP3001's so you are actually better where you are. Although I believe you can get a permanent 6.61 with the Infinity firmware, however that is beyond the scope of this tutorial.

Unless you have a problem with something at the moment I personally can't see any benefit in you upgrading. You can use all homebrew and most likely all the games you wish to play perfectly fine.

What if i am adding iso's to the root? For the psp go I do not use or need a memory card correct? I constantly get the corrupted data message. Also, for iso files, do we need to extract them all or just place them as is in the ISO folder? Most iso files i have for games have many iso files per game. is this correct? thank you in advance.

You need to extract your ISO's, it appears they are compressed with WinRAR if they have multiple parts. So use WinRAR to extract them and copy them to the ISO folder on your memory stick. I suspect the internal memory on the PSP Go will also work, however i don't own to to test this.

Yes you can upgrade to a non custom firmware version of 6.60 then install the custom firmware again as per this tutorial.
