    My response would focus solely on the black object. While it appears to be upside down (as in if you put it in a sim card tray, the pins don't face the direction of the contacts to the sim cards), it's size and shape and location of the 6 pins matches a sim card. Maybe the pins are not covered...

    Couldn't seem to get this working with 2 different flashcarts (for the recovery) to fix a retail cart (JPN), on a DS lite. [It freezes when I eject the flashcart]. Perhaps this only works with it flashed on an actual cart, reminiscent of this reply I found regarding DS Action Replay roms.
