I figured I would share this tragic news with the couple of Slipknot fans I know we have around here. Apparently Slipknot bassist Paul Gray was found dead in his hotel room earlier today (May 24th). Gray had fought with alcohol and drug addiction through his career with Slipknot. It was announced earlier this year that he and his wife were expecting a child. A hotel worker was the one who found Gray in his hotel room. While the cause of death is still under investigation, preliminary reports from the scene suggest evidence of a drug overdose. I remember seeing Slipknot live last year and Paul was absolutely fantastic on the bass. This is truly a tragedy, and I can only wonder how the band will cope with losing him. Rumor was that they were working on a new album so who knows when it will get finished, if it gets finished, or if the band will even stay together. I'm sure they will do what they can to keep making music, it's what Paul would have wanted I'm sure. R.I.P. Paul, you'll be missed. Source
Holy crap a lot of metal guys are dying these days.... First the Rev from Avenged Sevenfold Then Ronnie James Dio And now Paul RIP Paul..Hope the band keeps going though
Sure, his talent will be missed, but when the cause of death is drug overdose, I can't help but not feel bad. It's sad that he had a kid coming, but he made the decision to do drugs, and if that ruined his life, or ended it in this case, then it's his own fault.
cory has always said if anyone of the slipknot line up left then that would be the end of it. one would assume by this that slipknot will be no more. though we can always hope that they will stay together in pauls honour.
I agree with you to a certain point. Given that I've never been a drug addict or alcoholic, I don't feel that it's fair for me to judge someone else that has faught the disease. It is unfortunate that Paul had to go that way, but I don't condemn him. Addiction is a beast that nobody should ever have to face. I remember Cory saying that they would make music as long as the fans still enjoyed it. I can only imagine how the band has been hit by this crisis. We can only hope that they will in fact stay together in Paul's honor. As I mentioned earlier, I'm sure it's what Paul would have wanted.
I can understand that. It's just that you hear about so many people dieing from OD'ing these days I thought some people would take more intelligent path and not start drugs in the first place. Regardless, I'm sure his friends and family will miss him dearly. Since I forgot to do so in my above post, R.I.P.
Ah, I hope this is the end of Slipknot. There's enough lame Nu Metal out there as is. The last thing we need is more bad music.
Not to be rude, but I think it's pretty disrespectful to say how bad you think the band is given that they just lost one of their brothers. I get that people have opinions on things, but given the somber tone of this thread and the news it contains, don't you think it's just a tad bit rude to say how "lame" you think the band is? Some of us like the band and (not speaking for everyone here, just myself) are very sadened by this event. End of rant.
This is the thing that annoys me. Since you don't like it no one else should like it? Its a shame everyone is becoming arrogant. There are things that you like and there are things that I like and just because there are things that I don't like i'm not going to just say "It's so horrible I hope everyone in the band dies" or "I hope the band breaks up." Also I must say that is pretty pathetic to pretty much be glad that someone died, all I can say is, please think before you speak.
Watched the press conference that Slipknot gave and it brought me to a few tears. For those that will watch the video, you can just feel and see the immense pain this group is going through. All I ask is that anyone planning to post in the thread, make your posts respectful. If you just plan to attack the band or their music, please do so elsewhere. Even if you aren't a fan of Slipknot, you can still feel sorry for what this band is going through. I'll keep updating the thread with more details as the are released. The full autopsy report should be out in few days, so I will update then.
I can't see how anyone can hear that video and still go on to post that the band sucks. That just burns me up For things like this the poster needs to turn comments off. Watched the press conference that Slipknot gave and it brought me to a few tears. I'm not usually an overly emotional person, but I could hear the anguish from everyone in that video, and I couldn't help myself either
I agree completely. I want to hear other user's comments, only if they are constructive and not disrespectful. I have been on other forums that had this news and I cannot believe the terrible things people are saying. Some are saying they're glad he's gone, because Slipknot sucks...blah,blah,blah. It disgusts me how people cannot be empathetic to what's happened, but anyway apologies for the ranting. This event just had more of an effect on me than I thought it would, and get very upset when people are disrespectful to something like this, especially when it involves people that I highly respect.
RIP Paul Gray, fuck the haters online who sais Slipknot sucks and he deserved it. Appearntly they got no moral or ethic values in their head judging people out of their passion. I never fancied Slipknot, however I like some of their songs like Psychosocial and Before I Forget. And did I mention that 99% of all the haters saying Paul Gray deserved it or slipknot music sucks, wont achieve anything NEARLY as him...
