I purchased a used 120gb Xbox360 HDD in Gamestop. It has been a while since I was able to get a transfer cable, 30 day warranty gone. Manager not willing to help without recepit which I also lost.

Backed up the 20gb using Modio. Installed the 120gb in the console but only showed as if it had only 20gb. Formated the 120gb in the console. Now the used Xbox360 120gb HDD is not recognized at all by the console. I plug it in the windows PC, using Admin Tools/ Computer Management and shows 111.79 gb healthy FAT drive. Tried to read it from the computer using Xplorer360 extreme build 2 but a menu comes up "No FATX drive connected"

Any idea what I need to do to make the Xbox360 console recognize it?

Do I have to create partitions for the Xbox 360 to read it? If so, with what software would it work and what size and how many partitions?

    Help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Never format xbox hard drives with windows, sometimes its impossible to use them on the xbox again. I don't think there's nothing you can do.

    Rick,

Thank you very much for your help, I am quite inexperienced, ideas are very welcome. However, as I explained before:

"Formated the 120gb in the console."

I formated the 120gb Xbox 360 HDD in the Xbox 360 console, NOT in the Windows PC.

I am not sure if this makes a difference, but the HDD has never been formated in Windows, I just took a look(explored it) with Modio and Xplorer360 extreme.

The reason I formated it in the Xbox console is that it read as if it was a 16mb HDD, not 120mb. I could not imagine that formating it in the Xbox console could be a problem if I was using all true Xbox equipment (Xbox360 HDD bought used at Gamestop which I though was reliable).

    Thanks again, ideas welcome.

    Fran

The guys at Gamestop kept saying all you need to do is follow the screen instructions. In reading about this issue, I now know that a new HDD includes a CD that indeed gives you screen instructions. But Gamestop sold me just a plastic box with the used HDD, no CD. No instructions came up except if you wanted to format it by the Xbox console.

A format on the xbox 360 should not produce results like this.
That only happens when formatted with a non genuine microsoft transfer cable(makes any hard drive show up as an unformatted usb device on xbox) or formatted on the computer.

OK, thank you again. I understand the logic, however, the HDD was only formated once, by plugging it directly in the Xbox360 console, without the use of the cable.

There must be another way this happens. It was never formated in another way that I know of. Of course, I do not know of the condition when it was sold to me by Gamestop.

Apparently it has no way to be fixed. I am really mad at Gamestop now.

I got the cable from an Amazon seller with good reviews. See attached. Can you tell if this is good?

That's a generic one.It only works with the computer and xplorer 360 programs.
