Hello! I have a PS3 phat 40GB with a broken bluray-drive. I asked a friend about it and he said i should buy a new one and replace it myself! Here comes the part i'm not sure of. I've been looking around other forums and have found something about the bluray-drive being "married" to the motherboard! Can i just switch the drives and it will work? Or is it more to it? Regards// Chrille
......... I Dont know what to say you Should Get a store who can fix it , you cant just fix it if you DONT KNOW ! If your "freind" Knows , let him try or get a store who can fix a motherboard
The Blu-Ray drive is infact married to the PS3, meaning if you got another drive, it will refuse the drive. It is possible just to replace the Blu-Ray laser (if the laser is the issue). If your firmware is on 3.55 or lower there are things you can do to mod it and marry another BD drive to it too.
Thanks for the answers, both of you! Well, then i'll just take it to a store and see what they can do. I don't know that much about the PS3, so that's out of my comfort-zone! Thanks again! //Chrille
