I can personally confirm that the VELOCIRAPTOR WILL WORK in a 360 Slim using HDDHACKR

...With a bit of work ;)

it's NOT a plug & play affair. you MUST wire in a 12v source to the HDD.

My method managed to retain the stock power/data connector.

I split the rubber cover and peeled away the hot glueish base around the physical SATA power connector. It's all standard parts here. straight pin to pin. used a single 12v feed from the DVD drive to power pins 13, 14, & 15.

I Then reused ONLY THE TOP HALF of the rubber during reassembly. This allows you to sink the power/data connector about an 1/8th inch which makes it line up to the velociraptor PERFECTLY without using a case. and BTW. DONT think about trying to make a stock slim HDD case work. the drive won't fit. it barely fits in the carrier without the case. that's how thick it is.

bottom line is i now have 107gb of free 10k RPM drive space inside my new360 Slim.

I only took pics of the modifications to the factory data/power cable...and only 2 at that. because it's such a standard disassembly i felt no pics were needed. hardest part was spending an hour or 2 slowly chipping away at the stock connector and soldering that one single wire. rest was cake thanks to hddhackr.

I can probably lay claim to the first 10k RPM drive in an xbox. that in and of itself feels pretty damn good. the flood gates have been opened. go forth and mod my fellow gamers. godspeed!

AND i forgot. IF you follow this method and drop the factory connector lower for fitment...you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE A STOCK 360 Slim HDD CASE for a regular drive UNLESS you READD the bottom rubber back to raise the connector to the proper level.

That's pretty interesting, good work on that.

As your probably one of the only people with a 10,000rpm drive in a 360 it would be interesting to see if you notice much difference compared to a 5,200rpm drive.

For example when playing system link with Blackops installed on my hacked 250gig drive, I have noticed that loads a good 5 seconds quicker than the console playing off the disc. Just wondering if there is a significant difference again with your 10,000rpm drive vs a 5200rpm drive?

i can already vouch for the difference in load times in Mass Effect 2 using a stock 20gb drive and the velociraptor. it's certainly noticeable. i will swap drives back & forth soon to deliver real benchmarks

disc one installed. all 5 free add-ons from ceberus network/xbl marketplace

all addon content and save games stored on memory card

system caches cleared prior to loading game with each drive

    mission: recruit the krogan

Velociraptor: 23.5s from hitting resume at main menu til shepard has weapon drawn.

    stock 5400rpm 20gb: 28.7s for the same

    Advantage: Velociraptor - 5.2s faster

Interesting I suppose. I wouldn't mind doing that but I rather like having my 360 not melt. It's a death sentence to do it in a PS3 and I can only imagine the same with the 360.

I would think if one did nothing but install the drive without taking additional cooling measures then sure...i'd expect it to melt down.

I took the time to attach a 60x60x25 sunon maglev to the HDD bay cover after knocking a few fins out. i'm still debating which direction to have it work. I'll probably get a set of temp probes and monitor CPU HSF temp and HDD temp with the fan in both directions. I'd rather not blow the heat INTO the case myself BUT so far it "feels" cooler with the fan acting as an intake. I'm also confident in the stock fan to do the appropriate exhaust work, but i can always volt mod it if need be.

wiring up the fan was simple as well. However setting this up so i could still remove all the paneling was a problem. i ended up making an external connector for it and drilled through the small plastic trim around all of the outputs on the back. you can still separate the case to do a teardown if need be. i wanted it all internal but there's simply not enough room. the fan is also quiet. very quiet. i like that.

i wouldn't recommend this to everyone but then again i'm an impatient bastard and ME2's load times get on my nerves...even with having it installed to a regular hard drive. FF13 wasn't as bad but still...

now if only these were found to be SATA300 and we could get SSD's to work. that'd be sweet. but for now i'll settle for what likely is the fastest it can realistically get.

Here's my mod I'm currently working on: https://digiex.net/guides-reviews/c...0-phat-falcon-mod-show-tell-pseudo-guide.html

Finally got it to work temporarily with my pc sata cable. GTA5 doesn't have any popup delay. Using the hd for disc 1 and usb stick for disc 2.

Overall though I'm having a little trouble determining where to put data. Like now that i have fast drive I want to take advantage of it, but I don't know where to install other stuff for even faster speed (parallel data reading) such as on a memory stick.

    Any advice?
