What is the GameBoy Advance (GBA) E-Reader?

The e-Reader is a discontinued device made by Nintendo for its Game Boy Advance portable video game system. It was first released in Japan in December 2001, with a North American release following in September 2002. It has a LED scanner that reads "e-Reader cards", paper cards with specially encoded data printed on them.

Depending on the card and associated game, the e-cards are typically used in a key-like function to unlock secret items, levels, or play mini-games when swiped through the reader. The cards themselves contain data, as opposed to unlocking data already on the device itself.

A lot more information on the GameBoy Advance (GBA) E-Reader can be found on Wikpedia

Download: Download GameBoy Advance (GBA) E-Reader Cards (Updated 29th April 2019)

This download is currently the most complete set of GBA E-Reader Cards. I'm not sure what if any are E Cards are missing however.

If you wish to use this with the Pokemon Game you can find a version of VBA Link with E-Reader + Link Cable Emulation For Pokemon GBA Games here

The E-Cards are also on the Internet Archive, which is where these came from. If the cards we're not on there it's not something I would have considered posting up.

I looked at archive.org again and I found out there's a slightly more complete zip, from 2016, that has 12 more.

    https://archive.org/download/No-Intro-Collection_2016-01-03/Nintendo-GameBoyAdvancee-cards.zip

Comparing it with the 2015-03-03 ones this is the ones that seem to be new:
    - Domo-kun no Card-e - Promotional Cards - A-001 (Japan)
    - Pikmin Puzzle Card-e+ - Promotional Cards - 12-H001 (Japan)
    - Pikmin Puzzle Card-e+ - Promotional Cards - 12-H002 (Japan)
    - Pikmin Puzzle Card-e+ - Promotional Cards - 12-H003 (Japan)
    - Pikmin Puzzle Card-e+ - Promotional Cards - 12-H004 (Japan)
    - Pikmin Puzzle Card-e+ - Promotional Cards - 12-H005 (Japan)
    - Pikmin Puzzle Card-e+ - Promotional Cards - 12-H006 (Japan)
    - Pokemon Battle Card-e+ - Emerald - Promotional Cards - 19-P002 (Japan)
    - Pokemon Battle Card-e+ - Fire Red & Leaf Green - Promotional Cards - 15-N002 (Japan)
    - Pokemon Battle Card-e+ - FireRed & LeafGreen - Promotional Cards - 15-N001 (Japan)
    - Rockman EXE 5 - Kaizou Card - Part 1 - 136-A002 (Japan)
    - Rockman EXE 6 - Kaizou Card - Part 2 - 137-F003 (Japan)

There might be one up there with a few more cards, I think I saw one which required you to be logged in to see and I couldn't be bothered with that but there might be some more there.

  5. I know which site you are meaning. The ''newest'' version there has the date: ''20160328''. And yes, you need to be a member there in order to see the links.

    No, this one.
    https://archive.org/details/No-Intro-Collection_2016-01-03_Fixed

Same date but it says Fixed, it might not even concern e-Reader cards at all either.

There was this one too which is more recent but it's just one giant 37.5GB zip file rather than being separated into smaller archives, I'm not downloading that just to see if it had e-Cards lol. But if someone wants to, be my guest :P
    https://archive.org/download/No-Intro-Collection_2016-09-06

(fwiw those No-Intro collections on archive.org have -a lot- of actual roms for older systems as well, and not just databases for emulators.)

There should be an archive from March 29 2016 which is the latest collection. It is only missing the undumped cards I listed above + 3 other cards that were made public this february.

For a complete and latest e-reader set check romshepherd forums in the no-intro section, at the moment the whole collection can be downloaded except one rockman card which got added a few weeks ago and will most likely be shared soon there.

Btw i hope one day those missing Pokemon cards will be dumped! (Along with the non Pokemon cards ofc!)

Hi. I tried to search for a e reader + but could not find it. It does not work on e reader either as it is region locked. Anyone have a e reader + rom?

Not sure if this site is legit, but it's the only place that had it: romsmania.cc/roms/gameboy-advance/card-e-reader-batman-223640

Hello, this is the current latest e-reader cards pack from No-intro, you can scan it with clrmamepro by using the e-reader dat file from the no-intro datomatic page

    https://www73.zippyshare.com/v/OQ3PB1i3/file.html

The Pokemon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire cards (Jirachi, Latios/Latias and Pikachu) got dumped very recently while two battle-e Emerald cards which were private for a few months got shared today and this pack has them inside.

This pack is missing the newly dumped F-Zero cards (those will be shared soon and I will upload them) and a few Rockman cards which got dumped a very long time ago but were never shared with the public (but the person who dumped the F-Zero cards got a few of the Rockman cards and will share them, as for the rest they might stay missing until someone redumps them!)

There's nothing Pokemon related missing from the latest e-reader database and the list of undumped cards keeps getting smaller!

Thanks to everyone for preserving this obscure part of Pokemon gaming history

As far as I know the cards can be used only in the vba emulator and it's thousand variations for windows for and mGba has e-reader support planned.
Don't know about any of the Apple operating systems, as for Android, it has million gba emulators but none have e-reader support.

Edit: Actually here is a list of missing dumps, what a small list!
If anyone got something please contact the no-intro staff in the datomatic or their forums

    Just curious.

Would it be possible to make an ereader rom loaded with one of the card files to then be loaded into a flash cart to the connect with physical copies of the games?

I honestly have no idea if that's possible, it would need to be a hacked rom for sure.
