    About the Doel Deoxys Distribution:

The Doel Deoxys was distributed at the TV Toy Museum in the Netherlands during the Pokemon Fan Days 2006 from May 25 to 28, 2006 to celebrate the release of Destiny Deoxys (Doel Deoxys).

So what do we have here? Well this is a rom dump of the Doel Deoxys event distribution used in the TV Toy over in the Netherlands. You can use this to distribute yourself your own legitimate Doel Deoxys exactly as if you had attended one of the Doel Deoxys distributions over 13 years ago back in 2006.

    doel-deoxys-distribution.jpg doel-deoxys-distribution-2.jpg doel-deoxys-distribution-3.jpg doel-deoxys-distribution-4.jpg

    Technical Info:

The Dole Deoxys distribution is quite unique compared to other Pokemon Gen 3 distributions we have managed to release.

The rom is hardcoded with 1 January 2006 - 4 June 2006 as the allowed distribution period. However it's not programmed with variables that are simply modified to change the dates to anything of your choice like with the NDS roms, rather a function that first checks if Year is 6 (2006). If so, then it checks if Month is lower than or equal to 5 (May), and if greater than 5, it checks if Month is 6 (June) and if so, it checks if Day is greater than 4 (June 4). Therefore, allowing 2006/01/01 - 2006/06/04. Of course you can modify the function, but it isn't as straightforward or practical as changing variables to set any dates you want.

That being said, the Edit Mode we found hidden in 10ANNIV is completely missing from Doel, so clearly the time/dates weren't set that way as we had previously assumed. We're speculating it was perhaps used for the Japanese GCEA/GMPC events, which 10ANNIV rom is a deviation of. The six campaigns of GCEA/GMPC and six date slots in Edit Mode may hint all campaigns were in one rom, and activated according to dates in Edit Mode, which made it easily modifiable when/if needed. This Doel rom is clearly very unpolished in comparison to the others, making it obvious to be an early translation and variant of one of the Japanese distro roms, so not as closely related to 10ANNIV as previously thought. We discovered the truth is that it's actually, literally, an American rom when it comes down to it. The American roms were first localized from a Japanese rom, and the European roms were later localized from the American roms. This Doel rom was Europe's first unique Gen 3 event, so when they modified it to distribute Doel, that's basically all they changed from the American source rom. Later events are when they localized it more to the appearance of what we see with 10ANNIV and Aura Mew.

How the RTC was originally calibrated for the cart to believe it was between 1 January and 4 June 2006, we can't say for certain, since there's no way to input a current time/date and the fact the GBA has no internal RTC like a DS. It definitely needs to read an RTC to function unmodified. Which is how I got it to work on an emulator at least. Just temporarily set your PC clock/date within the allowed distribution period. So for practical use these days, if you want to use it on real hardware, it is a definite that rom requires modification. That's easy though, just 00-out 0xB2C to 0xB37 in the rom hex, and it kills the date check function I described above. It would honestly be more convenient to use the edited rom with emulators as well.

The only logical guess is that the RTC was calibrated automatically by the software that originally wrote the rom on the proto/devcart. We believe this is the case since it would've been the most convenient. Other theories are that maybe they inserted the distribution cart in a NDS (this was 2006) with special a NDS software to feed RTC into the save data of the Doel cart, or connected to some sort of external hardware. Those are really terrible methods, but it's literally all I could imagine if it weren't automatically calibrated upon writing to the cart. We'll likely never know for sure, but that's the general idea.

    Pokemon Doel Deoxys Distribution Download

    Distributing the Doel Deoxys:

The Doel Deoxys can be distributed on both emulators and real hardware. However to distribute on real hardware you will need to use the modified version of the distribution BUUJ - Doel Deoxys (No Date).gba

This modified version is the original rom with the date requirement check removed as detailed in the technical information above.

On an emulator you can either use the original BUUJ - Doel Deoxys.gba rom or the version with the date check removed. To use the original unmodified version the date on your PC must set within the allowed distribution period of 1 January 2006 - 4 June 2006.

A video showing the Pokemon Doel Deoxys Distribution in action on real hardware:

Equipment required to make use of this distribution on real hardware:
    • 2x GBA's
    • 1x link cable (The official Nintendo cable works, 3rd party cables might not work)
    • 1x Distribution Cart (This is what we have the rom of) so you can use a GBA Flash Card
    • 1x Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, LeafGreen, FireRed cart which matches the language of the distribution you are using.

To distribute an Doel Deoxys on real hardware:
    1. Save your Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, LeafGreen, FireRed game and have at least 1 free slot in your party (the more free slots you have, the more Doel Deoxys you can distribute)
    2. Turn off the GBA with your Pokemon Game in
    3. Turn on the GBA with the distribution cart inside. (It is presumed that you know how to write and load the Doel Deoxys distribution rom to the flashcard you own)
    4. Connect your GBA link cable to the GBA with the Doel Deoxys distribution in and the GBA with the Pokemon game in which will receive the Doel Deoxys
    5. Turn on the GBA with your Pokemon game in which will receive the Doel Deoxys, holding Start and Select to enter Multiboot mode.
    6. After a couple seconds you’ll see a coloured Nintendo logo appearing on the GBA which is going to recicve the Doel Deoxys.
    7. You’ll see a screen that tells you a Pokemon is being received, after this has finished the Doel Deoxys will be in your party.
    8. Now turn off the GBA which received the Doel Deoxys, turn it on again as normal and load your save game. You will find Doel Deoxys in your party.

Glad to see this one's finally public! Probably gonna be the last publicly released distro barring a miracle find or a re-creation of the distros that have the same generation algorithm as this, 10ANNIV and Aura Mew. Especially since it's looking like PCNY won't be able to be used at home due to the separate cart reader (and reports that the owner doesn't want it to be released publicly).

I'm very happy Doel Deoxys is now available to the entire community. This public release is a culmination of the last project I dealt with to obtain another rare distribution software for public preservation. I felt it was proper that I came back temporarily from retirement to help finalize things related to this project, and as of this post I'm back at full retirement with no loose ends on the back of my mind. I don't have much else to say that isn't repeating what I've said a few times in recent posts here and on PP, so I will be brief on that and rather mostly provide a summary of Doel and things related to close this out on.

After we released Aura Mew for Christmas 2017, Doel Deoxys was the only other distribution I knew to still be in private collections not yet public. It was so rare, its existence was not even known to the public, unlike the others which people at least sort of knew about even before they were released. If I recall correctly, it was sometime during late 2016 or early 2017 that I first learned of Doel existing in private hands, with who we'll call "Collector X". At the time I was told it'd never be up for sale and could not tell anyone about it, and this was the case up until soon after the publication of Aura Mew. I couldn't even get a screenshot or a single bit of information about it, but I did later get an individual .pk3 sample distributed directly to a savefile I provided. It wasn't until mid 2017 that another private collector unwilling to ever sell/trade/share or barely even discuss anything he possessed, who we'll call "Collector Y", generously revealed to me in confidence that he also had Doel and that it was "unique in that it has a black UI and RTC lockout". Those two unique bits of details was all I ever really knew until we actually possessed the rom later down the line.

I think with nothing left to be sold to us from Collector X after Aura Mew in 2017, it soon after changed the status of Doel Deoxys to "possible", and later in August 2018 after some time of on and off persuasion, it became available for an asinine price. Well after struggling severely with Aura Mew, I was already suffering burnout for many reasons, and I was telling the team I could not suffer through that again for Doel, especially with the usual price tripled. I said it would have to be funded near immediately or I wasn't going to be able to bother. Luckily at this point in time there were way more people involved and willing to help than during the funding of Aura Mew, which if they were all around back then, Aura Mew wouldn't have been such a near year-long nightmare. Though with the price so high for Doel, it was not easy still, but we were able to wrap it all up in less than a month in September.

Originally planned for a Christmas 2018 release alongside the Japanese "Strongest Pokemon" NDS software, we figured it best to hold Doel off for a full year in order to use as trade material if another rare distribution were to come to our attention sometime in 2019. Suffice to say, no such opportunity came about. Though the foresight was worth holding it off, especially in case it would leave us with nothing new for Christmas 2019. Which is exactly what happened at least for what the public can obtain and use, though new things such as the PCNY Gen 2 and Gen 3 GameCube software have recently been obtained, and being privately researched in order to hopefully make publicly usable (which it is currently not).

This year has not felt like Christmas at all for me, but upon seeing Doel public, that joy did come this morning, even though Doel is not new or of use to me. It was the contribution to the community what made it happen, something which was the core drive for me being involved all these years, something which I've never really talked about other than a few private instances. I grew up frustrated learning about these Gen 3, 2, and 1 events that I would never have a chance of obtaining, whether it be due to already ending or being held in cities too far away. Gen IV starting the nationwide events with mass-produced carts and wifi was a great advancement for holding events. Though part of me continued to be frustrated for so many years that I could not get the events for my older games which I still enjoyed playing. When I eventually came across the opportunity to purchase a 10ANNIV cartridge in 2016, I knew I had to buy it, not just for myself, but to dump it and provide for everyone who had the same frustrations as I had. I've told people I would've appreciated these more if I was still young enough for the magic of Pokemon to still resonate with me, which by 2016 was already fading away. If I were younger it would be the best thing in the world, so with that also on my mind I knew it was also providing for younger fans and the future of the fanbase who will or one day get to experience what I really could not fully, and what others that had already gone would never experience. That is why I did these things every chance I got, and I think these core ideals are reflected in the preservation community that exists today whether subconsciously or not. So many things have been lost throughout history due to improper preservation, and with the age of the internet where the entire world is able to access anything digitally, there is no excuse for lost media and information.

Lastly, if you read the first post that explains the nature of the whole RTC thing, that is why Doel Deoxys carts never popped up for sale online, because it could not be done without the edited rom and sending a red flag to those who knew about it. Aura Mew carts never pop up either, due to needing to support savefiles for the distribution counter to work (attachment boards with flash chips for devcarts are rare), and the lack of supporting save data displaying "Backup Error" may have sent out red flags as well. As detailed by what was made public last week, myself, YoshiMoshi, and a couple others who remain anonymous did a lot of digging in early 2019 on what was for years suspected to be a dirty market of rewritten GBA developer carts. I had a goal to set this market up to implode to end scams before I called quits. YoshiMoshi and myself worked really hard and finally figured out how to rewrite these carts, which we had only moderately researched off and on over the past few years. While the two who wish to remain anonymous dug into more controversial stuff regarding those who have been manipulating this market for many many years. This controversial data came to me in an infodump and is in private circulation, but is totally inappropriate and unprofessional to post on the forums due to its nature. All that is absolutely necessary to be public can be seen in the post about rewriting devcarts, but those who really want to dig deeper should be able to find that stuff fairly easy.

This post ended up way longer than I intended, which I often tend to do when there's lots of details running through my mind. I hope what inspired me and kept me going even when it was a nightmare will be reflected in whoever continues preserving Pokemon rarities far into the future. I may not care much about Pokemon or video games anymore, but I still very much support the ideals and concept of preserving Pokemon rarities for the future of the fanbase after we've all come and gone.

I want to thank everyone one last time who has been involved with all of these distributions. Among those who helped financially to obtain them, those who researched them in depth to learn all the secrets and details, those who had knowledge from attending the events themselves, those who knew of other unknown distributions with collectors, those who revealed other secrets we otherwise would never have known, and so much more throughout these years. We could not have achieved all that we have done up to this point without the team effort. In reality I only really caused a small spark by obtaining 10ANNIV and the Aurora Ticket myself in 2016, but to afford every distribution that followed, including the knowledge learned about everything, consolidated goals and interests resulting a preservation and research team, all could not have grown into what it is today without the efforts of everyone. I had no idea we'd ever advance this far. This has all shown me that it's true what is said in that one small act can cause a ripple effect and change the world.

  7. That's really a shame. Guess we can't have everything, right? Nevertheless, thanks everyone involed in this so much!

Btw, @Deoxyz I think this distribution cartridge was available to the public much earlier, I remember downloading your file in your signature (the last one, march 2019 I think...) and I think it was there...

Make sure you are using the edited rom labeled (No Date), and if so make sure you have the RTC option enabled on your flashcart or emulator. That Japanese text appears when the date does not reflect the distribution period, even when the date check function is removed.

Yeah, I stuck it in that zip when I retired in March in the chance I would not be around for Christmas to update the link. I didn't say anything about it being there and never knew if anyone actually found it. It certainly didn't get talked about publicly if anyone did find it. I knew it was a risk but at that time I really didn't think I'd be coming back around even for a brief amount of time.

If you're using the No Date ROM, you probably need to set the save type to Flash 128k.

I can't transfer Deoxys to any of my gba roms, everything works fine with AURA Mew and 10 ANNIV distribution roms, but when I try to use this one, it doesn't get to the transfer screen it gets stuck on the multicolor Nintendo logo.
Pd: I'm using Myboy emulator on android

Thank you for one more distro release guys and girls and Merry Christmas! Is this the clean rom dump or did the dumper modified it to hide some info like in some previous dumps?

It's really nice to see this ROM come public after year. Really glad that the whole scam was made public, I always though the number of carts being sold was something that seemed off.

Just like Deoxyz and many others on the community, I got burned out on Pokémon to the point of not playing anymore, but I've always been lurking around and reading the news on stuff, so I'm glad to see what was posted this last week. I do hope someday one of those collectors has a change of hearth and decides do part with stuff or share it with others, it's very unlikely but one can hope for things like this.

Just like ronaldo99, I'm pretty sure I also noticed that when I downloaded the .zip from Deoxyz signature around April the "private" DOEL rom was in there, but since I already had access to it from my small donation and the fact that no one talked about it publicly anywhere that I read posts on I decided to not say anything. This is a really nice gift to the rest of the community, and I hope people feel the joy I felt when I received a message saying we had the ROM a year back.

I would like to thank everyone who helped make this and every other event discovery in the last few years happen, all the donors, researchers and especially the people who dealt with collectors, auctions and private file collections. All the time and invested into this with no real way to know what would end up happening at the end of the journey.

Ever since I was a kid, up to generation IV with the introduction of WI-FI events, I've always saw on the internet that there were handouts for the exclusive Pokémon, but since I've lived in Brazil for most of my life, I expected to go my whole life without ever seeing any of them personally due to geographic restrictions. After growing a bit and getting to know Project Pokemon and lurking on there I decided to invest on flashcarts to be able to mess with saves and inject pokemon into my game, but that was still mostly restricted to gen 4 and 5 with the PokeEdits at the time. Seeing that a save was made with a bunch of those exclusive events for my favorite generation of games brought joy to my hearth and filled me with happiness of being able to see what I never expected to be able to on my Gen 3 original physical save cartridge.

Going on a bit of a tangent, I hope everyone had a nice holiday season and wish everyone a happy new decade.

This is likely something to do with MyBoy. In the past several people have reported issues when using GBA distributions with MyBoy, and since I have no experience with the emulator I can not help, and have not seen anyone else come along with answers. My best guess is that if it worked with the other distributions, you need to try to look at the settings of the save type as Invader Tak and myself mentioned in earlier posts. If that doesn't help, hopefully someone will eventually come along that can.

Yes, the original rom is a completely clean dump. We know this for a fact because the research team has developed enough knowledge to be able to easily spot any hex edits via disassembly, even if we have no other versions to compare it to. Also, the only edit in the "No Date" version is the zeroing of the date check function, I made the edit for that version myself after learning from the research details (thanks for everything ajxpk). The only rom we've had actual issues with tampering was the Aurora Ticket, as detailed in the posts last week when the untouched version was finally made public. Edits to the other roms were not to the programs themselves, but to the "00"s that follow the program that pad the rom out to a proper size of 4MB. Originally, people may have placed identifiers to trace who leaked the cart, dumped a rom, sold the cart/rom, or some people made edits in order to hide said information, etc. However we reuploaded all GBA distributions last year sometime with the padding containing only the proper 00s.

@Deoxyz okay thanks for the info and thanks again for all the hard work on Pokemon events, back in the game boy days I didn't even knew that Mew is part of the games but we are seeing many of them pop up nowadays even in their untouched 5 lvl form! I was planning to continue playing from where I left off before Platinum was released but with the tons of event saves and distributions here and in PP i changed my mind and now plan to restart the whole series and start from the beginning to catch em all for the first time :) Even trading between versions for exclusives is possible with emulation from game boy up to NDS to retain most of the legitimate feeling of the original hardware and games

@RedTex9000 The problem is that you are using the Gba game rom in the first connection window and Doel Deoxys in the second try with Doel first and the Gba rom second

Thanks again for this ROM! Finally got around to distributing this to my LeafGreen and Emerald carts! (H)

@Deoxyz As for the RTC mystery, could it be that they've used the Gameboy Player, using the host GameCube's RTC or is that impossible?

For calibrating the RTC? I suppose it's possible, but I can no longer test it since I sold off all my GameCube stuff early last year. However considering I had the same thoughts with a DS lite, and no luck after testing that, I would not expect it to work. What ever feeds the RTC data seems to have to run in conjunction with the rom to initially save that data, like when you do it with your PC with the date set back to 2006. So what that tells me is the NDS running in GBA bios mode is always independent from the NDS's internal clock. Since a GBplayer is essentially playing a literal GBA that is just booted into by temporarily spinning the boot disc, I expect the same scenario. However my GameCube knowledge isn't very existential, so it's possible the internal RTC would still calibrate? Some parts of the GBplayer software is loaded in ram such as the borders and the special menu, so maybe the internal RTC data is too. I'm thinking like how the PCNY software which first reads the internal data to verify if it is within the particular campaign's distribution period, then once verified it stops spinning the disc and the distribution runs from memory. Just my thoughts.

@InsaneNutter do you have a GBplayer? Would you have a chance test this theory with the Doel rom on either one of the devcarts? I'm sort of curious.
