    Hey everyone,
So I'm following a couple guides on how to get an old western digital laptop drive to work in my 4GB 360, and I can't get it to work. The model of drive is WD3200BEVT. I started with this guide:
    https://digiex.net/threads/hack-a-2...-work-in-the-xbox-360-and-xbox-360-slim.3152/
The problem I'm having is the HDDHACKR part using DOS. It won't recognize the hard drive, and my BIOS doesn't have any options for that legacy ATA mode or whatever it needs. So I found this guide to modify the drive in windows using a hex editor:
    https://digiex.net/threads/xbox-360-how-to-flash-your-hddss-bin-in-windows.8569/
I completed that, and loaded it in Xplorer360. It recognizes the drive properly and I was able to write the partition to it. (I'm not sure if that's even necessary for 4GB Xbox, maybe the support for original games is on the 4GB internal memory?)
I tried the drive in my 360 without doing the partitions, and with doing the partitions. The unit didn't recognize it either way.
I also tried connecting it via USB to the back of my 360, and letting it format the drive. I connected it inside the console after, no dice.
I also tried taking that freshly formatted drive and applied the firmware modification with hex editor, and connecting it inside the 360. Still doesn't work.
I really don't know what else to try. Maybe the hard drive port on my 360 just doesn't work? Any other ideas?
    Thanks!

Using a hex editor never worked for me, the only way i've ever been able to hack a hard drive to work in the Xbox 360 is to use Hddhackr, booting an older PC to DOS and flashing the drive like that.

Just so you know you can use up to a 2TB usb drive as storage for the Xbox 360 now, so unless you really want to make use of Xbox Classic backwards compatibility that might be a better solution in 2020, given you are limited to 500gb with an internal drive.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up powering up my old 32 bit processor and motherboard, connected the drive and bootable USB stick and finally got it to work! Too bad you can't store music on the internal drive

If i remember rightly you can rip audio CD's to the internal drive. Just put the audio CD in, play it and press the rip button. Existing MP3's have to be streamed over the network or from a USB drive however.
