I am noticing the fans on this phat console are super loud with motor whine too sounds like a jet engine, way louder than my slim console, any recommendations on how to quiet this down? The console is not even hot either and the fans are at low speed and still real loud. Ordered a couple replacement fans on fleaBay but I'm not sure if they'll be quieter. Does not seem to be many options. My fan connector is a 3 pin

Have to fix this it really ruins the game immersion

Try changing themal paste under gpu/cpu.. This might help..

    will try that,
dash launch says my cpu @ 63 C and memory at 68 C
    I haven't been playing a game either.
    Kind of high no?
    other 2 @ 40 C

    annoying question,
does it matter if the screws under the X-clamps are screwed in? Like perhaps they take some heat away through the case?
Right now they are not screwed in because I plan to do the thermal paste thing, but haven't yet...

EDIT - I applied the thermal paste, of course it did not fix the fan noise at all because as I said its noisy even when cold and just turned on. Thermal paste was baked on and super hard to get of eventually did it, x-clamps were a bitch,
now my CPU temp is @ steady 46 which is a huge improvement,
however noticing GPU gets super hot just gets hotter and hotter the longer the console is on. Perhaps I might try that cheesy divider fan mod.
However I am of the opinion now that phat's just suck I used one because I thought it'd be easy to RGH and it wasn't too hard, but I guess I am spoiled by owning a slim first because the slim is so much quieter and better designed.

this thermal paste was 6.99 from newegg said arctic silver ceramic paste.
it is in a tiny syringe enough for maybe 4 applications.
anyways I already used it on my laptop with excellent results.

yes I know there is crappy thermal paste out there,
cpu and gpu use same cooling principle.

the point is when you first turn on a xbox 360 or computer, it is cold, and the fan, if it is temperature controlled, will not be on high speed.
yes it was good to replace the thermal paste but my problem is the fan noise.

I guess I will find out when I get the replacement fans, if they are all this loud.
In that case won't ever use an xbox falcon

As you have have a Jtag / RGH i think you can modify the fan speed with dashlaunch or freestyle dash if I remember correctly, older Xbox 360 do sound like a jumbo jet taking off when the fans ramp up speed, although they do get a lot hotter so reducing the fan speed might not be the best idea.

I would agree with that, turning down fan speed does not seem like a good idea,
going to try the divider mod because GPU is getting real hot.
Going to RGH a slim soon once I get the chips from China.
But if other xbox 360 phat fans are quieter, as they probably are, Phat might be okay with the divider mod.
Yeah this one has an electric motor noise that I haven't heard since my desktop PC from year 2000 LOL.
If it was just the wind/air noise, it would be way better.
But I think that electric motor noise could possibly be on all phat fans.
Sounds almost like a refridgerator or something

I was thinking another thing you could do is have the DVD drive case actually touch the GPU heatsink with perhaps some type of metal shim and that could remove heat from the GPU pretty significantly.
I'm not sure they may already touch but I dont think so due to the plastic stands on the side of the DVD drive

I have done the divider mod my xbox 360 has been on for an hour now just on dashLaunch...
    20201028_185805.jpg

As you can see the divider mod does work, yesterday my GPU was at 79 degrees and still climbing after about 15 minutes. As expected the CPU temp has increased about 6 degrees C. I restuck the EDRAM cooler pads onto the chips before putting back together (they were stuck to the lower case shell before) and it made a huge difference of almost 20 degrees C so just that little thing is a must do, unfortunately both sides of the pad are sticky so they often come off to the case when xbox 360 phat is taken apart. I plan to possibly get some non sticky cooler pads and put them on the bottom of the sticky pads because you still want the heat to transfer to the case as much as possible but you need them stuck firmly to the chip first and foremost.

I just tried putting my hand around the console and the place I feel heat coming out is the BACK, like behind the intake fans!
Great fan shroud design Microsoft hey lets put a wall of plastic at a 90 degree angle to our cooling fan.
It's so stupid design if it were designed properly heat would be flowing out the front and air would be moving from back to front somewhat freely.
On top of that cooling fans are sucking in hot air

waidamminit.... these are exhaust fans! WTF!
This whole time I thought they were intake fans because of the shroud!

Thank you for your eloquently worded and insightful literary reply. I can see I am dealing with the finest gentleman, a scholar of english no doubt. PHD from Oxford maybe? My good man you have put Shakespeare to shame with your magnificent verbosity and lingual craftery.

Yes exhaust fan expels the heat by sucking the air out
    As opposed to blowing
The delta fan SUCKS though because of the loud electrical whine (it is loud)
    It double sucks

To suck or blow, that is the question

I need to move to the Artic and live in an Igloo so I can play Xbox yes
