You can format the drive on pc and it will work fine, but it won't work on the xbox 360 anymore.
You could use the 120 bin file. But only 80gb will be usable.

Title updates won't notify you to update the xbox 360 when disconnected from live, only system updates on usb or cd will. Title updates are in use...
