A quick look at the Kinect Preview Program update

The Kinect preview program you could sign up for is really not as interesting as some of you might think, all the interesting stuff requires a Kinect sensor (anyone want sell me one? ) so if you have already seen my videos of the Kinect dashboard that leaked the other week there is not that much to really show you.

Avatar items are disabled for now:



Some things relating to Kinect can be downloaded, however they refuse to work without a Kinect sensor plugged in.



Information about some of the games Kinect Beta Testers have access to can be seen on the Dashboard, however everything has to be downloaded through the Kinect hub, which will only let you load it up if you have a Kinect sensor plugged in to your Xbox 360.




The Kinect Joyride and Dance Central betas that were downloadable under Viva Pinata a few weeks ago do now work with the Kinect dash, you can see them in my post below.



As you can see the update is really not that exciting without a Kinect sensor and any avatar items you might have you will not be able to see at the moment, however your avatar still appears to have them on when a friend views your avatar on his / her console.

I have new dash , 2.0.12567.0
and it really sucks, totaly white colors, and totally square menu :/
fonts are too big! this menu is too biG! is reallly annoying

hi nutter could you extract the joyride, kinect veiwer, voice collector, speech collection, kinect adventures, kinect sports, espn, zune, netflix files please. i would like to collect them in a betas file thanks matty.

I can upload the Kinect Viewer, Speach Collection and Joyride however they will have any information relating to my console removed so will only ever work on a jtag.
Joyride is 1.66 gigs so thats going to take me a while to upload.

To get Kinect Adventures and Kinect Sports you have to have a Kinect sensor plugged in to load the Kinect Hub and download them. So as you can guess I can not get them sadly.

Espn, Zune and Netflix are USA only, so again I can not get them.

You can launch those games:
Start a kinect game from game library
Wait for the "make sure you have enough room" etc. dissappear
When the screen turns black, immediately press guide and leave it there for a while
The game should start now.

That does work too!

You can navigate the menu's in Dance Central with an Xbox 360 Joypad, when the dance starts it tells you that the Kinect sensor is not there and pauses.
On Joyride you can press start and get in to a race, then it also pauses and states there is no Kinect sensor.

Great little tip, thanks Jessenic. Its pretty nice to get a quick gimps of the games, thats the most I ever hoped for without a Kinect sensor anyway.

I really wish I didn't update to the Kinect preview. I thought they would add important stuff but no. Whoo I got ESPN but I hate sports, whoo Packers! Now if you are in a party without the Kinect update, they can join but can't hear them or talk to them.

Nope you need the Kinect dash and have downloaded it your self from the marketplace.

If you watch my two videos above you have honestly seen everything you can do without the Kinect unit, which is basically navigate the menu's.

If I updated my dashboard last week with a leaked beta of the new Kinect dashboard, and have since been accepted into the official Kinect Preview Program that began rolling out yesterday, am I out of luck? You need to sign in to Xbox Live to receive the preview download, but since I already have the leaked version I cannot sign in to Xbox Live. Am I screwed here?

You could be screwed, I was going to do that but I waited. Try using test connection, it might prompt you to update. If not, download the latest dashboard leak.

As long as it was that 360's console ID that you used, you should just need to click on sign into Xbox Live and it will prompt you that a update is available. After you download that you should have regained access to live, if not you'll have to wait until the official release and hope that they actually store that on the hard drive.

i did use my console id and serial # didn't work for me,i just hoped that it works on the official release date,if not i lost a brand new 360 slim

So you are completely certain that you were in the preview because some people did get in but then apparently were denied at a later time. I have a feeling that may of happened to you but if its not the case then you should be able to have access when the official update is released because it will mostly likely end up on the site even if you can't regain access from live with the beta, with the official dashboard it should work.

of course i did install the update prieview on my old xbox,and right now i'm online with the beta preview,strange part is i didn't use my old xbx id for the prieview....i accedentily instald the leaked preview on my slim...i just really really hoped i'm no screwd

YES RIGHT NOW YES,i didn't get the update on my slim because of the can't sign in problem,so i transferd my proflie to the other xbx and got promted with the update ? so i instaled it... that's why i'm afraid that my slim won't updated on the official realese date

So it was the old Xbox 360's profile ID that got used so its now on the preview, the Slim ID's weren't used so it won't have access to live until the official release.
