Activision Chief Has Bold Words for Sony​

In a recent interview with The Times, chief of Activision Bob Kotick, said that he is considering no longer supporting Sony consoles (i.e. Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation Portable). “I'm getting concerned about Sony; the PlayStation 3 is losing a bit of momentum and they don't make it easy for me to support the platform. It's expensive to develop for the console, and the Wii and the Xbox are just selling better. Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation,” he says.

This is a major threat to Sony considering Activision has so many popular titles under their belt. With titles like Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, the upcoming Wolfenstein,and who can forget the Call of Duty series, Sony would take a big hit if Activision stopped supporting them.

Kotick went on to say this about Sony and the PS3: “They have to cut the price, because if they don't, the attach rates [the number of games each console owner buys] are likely to slow. If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony.” Ask when and he says: “When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support the console — and the PSP [portable] too.”

With an ultimatum such as that, Activision is certainly not playing around. If Activision can get Sony to bend to their will, it will show how much hold game companies can have over the console companies.

I didn’t realise things were so bad on the PS3 front, I would be surprised if Activision did stop supporting the PS3 though, it would just leave EA with easy sales for Skate and other games on the PS3.

If it happened I bet alot of people will rush and get an Xbox 360. The reason I got a 360 is because they are cheaper and had more games for them at the time. In every other aspect they are pretty much the same. The only other thing was the blu ray but I am more than happy with standard DVD's but I would not mind the bigger disk size so developers could make bigger and better games.

I got a 360 because it had all the games I wanted to play, anything that was PS3 exclusive that interested me has ended up on the 360 now anyway.

Xbox Live, the price and the fact the 360 was out a year before the PS3 helped a lot too

I got a 360 because after I bought the console and a used copy of Crackdown I had 1 penny left. Which then wouldn't of been enough for the console.

Now that’s true, you can’t forget the hidden costs of owning consoles like the fact you need games, maybe an extra controller, vga cable in my case, the wireless adaptor which I really woudnt wish on anyone to buy at that price.

I unfortunately had to buy the wireless adapter at full price. I would not wish that on anyone either but if you need it, what else can be done?

The cheapest option is flashing DD-WRT on a £30 router and using it as a wireless bridge, you can plug a few other devices in to it too. I used to share the internet from my laptop to the 360 but that wasn’t exactly reliable all the time, saved me a bit of cash until I got a network cable to the room the 360 was in.

La Foneras can be flashed with DD-WRT and can sometimes be gotten at promotional prices.

True, they did use to be £30ish although I’ve just looked and there half price at dabs.com at the moment.
