Ever met anyone off the internet?

Ive met a few people, I have to agree with Icharus it is a bit weird at first. After you have broke the ice its just like been with any other friend you have known for years.

Just have something to do planned and be your self (Y)
 
I used to moderate a chat channel for a long dead ISP called Flash.net. We held a couple of parties in the DFW area where we all got together to put a face to the names we chatted with. I met my first wife in thoes chat rooms. I was young and very dumb at the time.

Nimrod and I met once in Flordia! Though I do believe I scared him. I farted a bit to much. (Had gas that day) Perhaps too many features?

I wonder if we could ever meet again?

I guess we are, I did get a txt from you wishing me a Happy Birthday ;). Its weird how life works out! I never expected to end up at the same Uni and on the same course as someone I had known online since playing Jazz Jackrabbit 2 as a kid!

^^ Met the girl I eventually married over ICQ. We talked on the phone for like 2 months, then met up for a second run showing of the Matrix....and now almost 11 years later we're married heh.

I also used to arrange coffee shop meet ups with all the IRC users in my local town. It's always awkward at first like everyone else says, but if you have chemistry offline, it should translate to real life. As long as you can find the same common interests to discuss anyway.

I think it's a great networking tool...

For Example

I recently purchased a '93 E34 BMW M5 and I was looking to get parts & find local meet ups.

Joined a local community forum and @ the end of august every year they do a 100+ cruise to wasaga beach. so I'm looking forward to meeting some new people

as for the good & bad

There was one time where I met a bunch of people off of a web video streaming site.. "stickam" I talked to some people for along time and decided to finally meet up. we had a huge party and had fun but i decided to get behind the wheel and got my self a dui

my fault not theres... we still hang out tho...

Oh I also hooked up with some chicks over the years too :)

do it!! it's fun!! no excuses to make more friends!
 
I used to chat on IRC a lot back in the dial-up days (the late 90s). I've met lots of girls that I've chatted w/ online.

I've mostly met girls that were close to where I live, but I once met a girl that lived in Canada and I actually flew out there to visit her. It was a fun trip.

I met my wife on IRC. She lived in the same city that I did. We are still married and have two kids.

I don't chat anymore and haven't met anyone else online since I've been with my wife.

I used to use Flash.net back in the days. I've worked for a couple of ISPs. Both are now out of business.
 
i actually wanted to come to the Digiex "HQ" in April, my wife and i Visited London, Paris and Amsterdam on holiday in April, and i wanted to meet Nutter and Nimrod seeing as i've never been out of South Africa it would've been cool........
