It might not be as hotly anticipated as the "Beatles: Rock Band" game, but Microsoft announced at its annual press briefing at the E3 Expo that Facebook and Twitter will be coming to the Xbox Live service.
The press event included short demonstrations of what are effectively Facebook and Twitter clients for the gaming console, aesthetically adapted to the Xbox Live interface.
With the Facebook app, which will be a download from Xbox Live, members will be able to engage in a limited number of features including photo browsing, status updates, and looking at friends' profile "streams."
But what's more important to game developers is the fact that the Facebook Connect standard--which was rolled out first to Web developers, and then to iPhone developers--is coming to the Xbox this fall. This means that players will be able to log in with their Facebook accounts and broadcast their gaming activities on their social-network profiles.
Xbox manufacturer Microsoft made a $240 million investment in Facebook in October 2007. The service now has well over 200 million active users around the world.
Both Facebook products are "penciled in for the fall," Facebook platform program manager Gareth Davis told CNET News. He said that while there currently aren't plans to bring Facebook's virtual currency plans to the Xbox, he implied that it's not out of the question. "We're constantly looking at ways of improving the user experience or the developer experience with Facebook credits," Davis said.

I like how they have done the Facebook / Twitter integration, much better than creating a web browser restricted to viewing one or two websites.

It should look nice on peoples TV’s no matter what the size, this is something I’ll look forward to trying out.

Ugh, more Facebook. I'm assuming that this will be and optional feature that won't take up space on my hard drive. I'm guessing it will be a download of some sort (obviously).

I assume it would be something like Netfilx. I hope they don't integrate it into the system which I highly doubt they would.

I don't want useless crap like Facebook

Oh dear, I do believe its Digiex punishment time. Facebook is the best social networking site out there. I wasn't into such things till up late, I realized how many of my family members use it. Not to mention the best application available on Facebook, Farm Town. If you read my blog you would of discovered just how amazing it is. ;)

Perhaps I'll let that one slide. Only if you water my plants for a week?

We shall see. Maybe I will, but you must share some of that corn you grew. Dark Scyth shares the same opinion on Facebook. Thankfully he is as opposed to it as I am. I have a personal reason to not like Facebook that justifies not liking it.

Tons of fun to be had with sheep on a farm isn't that right InsaneNutter? Have you accetped an invite yet? If I get pestered enough on Facebook to join such things I eventually cave in.

If you live in Marsden yes Trebor ;)

At the moment I have a grand total of 0 Facebook apps installed, will probably stay that way as I don’t really bother with them anymore.

Just because it's the best, it doesn't mean that it's any good to begin with! I hope it's an optional download like other people have stated because I don't want extra stuff floating around my hard drive, especially if I don't use it anyway.
