Please refrain from posting random rumors with no merit. They just cause confusion, and more rumor mongering. This thread is also for information on 360 hard drives, not dvd drives anyway.

See c4eva Speaks for up to date information on dvd drive firmwares, or even look at the #fw channel on the EFnet IRC network. LT+ for slims is complete (for now) and in testing as shown by my sources. If there are bugs found in the firmware (as it was the case on rare occasions with previous versions of ixtreme) they will be corrected and the testing phase will continue until the teams are confident the firmware is good.

I hope that puts to bed any bad rumors.

Hi, Firstly many thanks for this excellent tutorial. I have so far read the first 5 pages of it but have some queries so I apologise now if my questions have already been answered previously.

Right, I have recently purchased a new Xbox 360 slim, 4GB version, 250GB Western Digital hard drive and case to go in the Xbox.
I do not have an earlier Xbox 360 so have no info to transfer!!

Please could you confirm which steps of this guide that I do and do not have to do??
Also, Can you tell me where to get the software needed to play original Xbox games on the 360, Other than from Microsoft themselves as I don't really want to connect my 360 to the net.

I would be very greatfull for any help you can give.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Do everything then
    Skip
    Opening the 360 drive enclosure
If you want to backup your profiles, saves, arcade games, demos, dlc

    **Optional**
    Do the rest.

Hi, Im new & would be very happy if anyone could help me,

I have a 320GB WD Scorpio Blue BEVT, I was wondering if it would work? I have HDDhacker v1.25 open and it says No ATA Devices Present!

I have IDE selected in Bios, Because the other 2 options are RAID & ACHI,

    Any help greatly appreciated

Can you change anything with AHCI? Try different options.

yeah nvm haha i fixed that problem but have a new one, I have the HDD connected to the Xbox But whenever i download Marketplace games like Modern Warefare onto it, it just comes up as corrupt data. Any way to fix that? I have reformatted it, Reflashed it, and Deleted system cache but still no luck, I dont want to download again because i have downloaded it around 6 times so far and at 6.5Gb a try its eating up my usage. It downloads arcade games and demo's without being corrupt its just the full games that it doesent like. Ive tried Flashing it with the 120GB HDDSS, & the 250GB

    Thanks guys :)

Hi again, Thanks rick550 for your help.
I do have another question for all though!! LoL.

The code on the drive I have is - WD-2500BPVT, Now although this one is listed in the original list of drives that work I have noticed most people using ones coded BEVT. What I need to know is Does this code difference matter or do they both do the same job??

    All helps appreciated.

    Cheers

    2 quick questions...

Just to be ABSOLUTELY sure. Could I be banned for doing this? Is Microsoft even able to recognize it's not an "original" drive?
My second question is: Do I HAVE to transfer the XBOX 1 emulator? Couldn't I just re download it from live or something? Is it a one time thing or something?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers.

I know Microsoft won't ban for the hard drive or at least haven't heard about one yet, as far as i know you only need the xbox 1 partition for playing the old games the only way to get it is restore it from a official Microsoft hard drive

Try ripping a few games and see if they work,if you still have issues just undo the drive and get a replacement.

    It will work.

Thank you BOTH for replying. And I understand that so far HDD hacking hasn't been an issue with live bans etc.
I can't say I fully understand your reply about the XBOX 1 emulator. I mean. I'm pretty sure that backwards compatibility is a feature that came with a dashboard update (I could be wrong though...) And if thats the case. Wouldn't it be simpler to just connect to live and let the console download it by itself from Microsoft? The point of my question was: Is there something PREVENTING that backwards compatibility update to be installed more than once on any given console? It wouldn't make sense cause imagine if you go get a new (original) HDD... Would Microsoft really want you messing with the drive on your PC (thus voiding their ToS and your warranty) just to get the emulator back? If I had to guess I'd say you can download it any time you want from live.
Anyone knowledgeable cares to shed a light on this?
    Thanks again!.

The emulator is installed into xbox 360 hard drives(retail ones) made by microsoft.
You can't download it from xbox live.
Backwards Compatibility Update can't be installed twice,it just replaces it.

So the emu comes installed by default in every *ORIGINAL* Microsoft HDD? So not having it could potentially alert Microsoft of something weird about the hdd, somehow flagging the console... Am I right?

**you will lose everything on the hard drive if you do this so backup everything**
Try these steps(they are not exact steps but refer to the first page)
Maybe you can reflash the drive using hddhackr
    1.use the undo.bin
    2.verify its a westen digital
3.if **verified a western digital** format the drive and repartition the drive using any formatting tool(disk management in windows or gparted live)
4.delete or move the undo.bin on the flash drive then use hddhackr to flash the drive
5.connect it to xbox 360 and run the format
6.turn off console and install the partition 2 if you need it
7.connect to xbox live and update
    8.transfer content

So it seems I'm in a similar boat to the one Rhys was in.
I've got a 250 WD Scorpio Blue BEVT, have my SATA config set to Enhanced > IDE (with only RAID and AHCI as other options) and my controller mode to IDE as well. HDDHackr continues to tell me there are no ATA devices found, regardless of the bios settings I use.
