HDMI Cables, The Truth – Educate Yourself Today

So it’s coming up to Christmas, people are buying new TV’s, game consoles and Blue-ray players, one thing I see in shops that really annoys me is HDMI cables been sold for astronomical prices! You could pay as much as £80 for a 5 meter HDMI cable from shops round here. If you look on Ebay you will find a cable that’s just as good and it will probably cost you around £3-5 delivered.

HDMI carries a digital signal which means its either going to:

A) Work
B) Not work

Or in very rare cases have interference of some kind.

In the very unlikely event your getting interference this could mean your cable is either faulty (most likley), or another electrical device is interfering with the cable so you're going to have to invest in a more expensive cable with better insulation. This would probably only affect you if you’re running a 30+ meter cable around the outside of your house.

For 99% of people out there hooking a HDMI device up to the TV with a £3 cable will be just as good as using an £80 Gold plated monster HDMI cable.

I have personally got quite a few £3 HDMI cables from World of Data and there is honestly no difference between them and a friend’s £50 cable.

Do the HDMI cables make a difference in quality when using on the xbox360 compared to the cables that come with the 360?

Yes, HDMI produces a lot sharper and clearer image compared to component.

It depends on the TV as to how much, if you compared them side by side like we once did at an Xbox Lan you really do notice a difference.

When I ordered my Blu-ray player from Amazon (my Xmas present) Amazon kept recommending a £30 HDMI cable for every Blu-ray player I looked at. It only had 3 stars from customer ratings and when I looked for an alternative HDMI cable I found a 5 star one for £8. Got one for my HDD recorder from Ebuyer for only £5 and I can't tell the difference between my 360 HDMI cable and that one so I do think these expensive ones are just a rip-off.
