Introducing... Digiex Power Users Here at Digiex HQ, we've had the geniuses working hard to figure out ways to improve services to our members and solve the problem of such a high number of users signing up but never posting. Today we announce our plan, which is clearly unique and has never been done before on a forum (except like half of them out there). Let me introduce our new usergroup, the Digiex Power Users. This is a group of users who have made over 30 posts throughout the forum, been thanked at least twice and have been registered on Digiex for over 30 days. To thank them for actually posting and being part of our community, we have decided to reward them with additional benefits. Benefits which due to many reasons, we couldn't offer to every single registered member and guest to our site. We are still working out the full details of what benefits we intend to offer them, we have a rough idea. To start with, we will be offering every single one of them access to user webspace on request so they can create there own websites and have them hosted on our web server. Or for those who aren't interested in websites, they can just use them to host images and downloads. They will also have a separate user account to use on our download server which will prioritise them over normal users insuring our big hits like Red Alert 3 Beta's and Windows 7 Builds can be downloaded by them sooner than normal members. To top it off, we have planned some additional exclusive content which will be available to them faster than normal to ensure they get something for taking the time to post. At the same time we don't want to make guests and normal members feel like second class citizens. Everything on Digiex will remain available to everyone, no matter if your a normal registered user or just a guest viewing the site. All our downloads, content, guides and arcade games will remain fully accessible to you. 80% of our download server capacity is set for anonymous users, only 20% is saved for staff and power users. At the same time we don't have enough disk space or bandwidth to offer every member user web space like we have done up until now, so I'm affraid we will have to limit that to power users only. Please bare with us while we work the full details of what we intend to offer. We have created a forum for power users, which if you can see it and view the thread posted in there, means your already set as a power user. If any members have any suggestions for services or ideas of what we could offer power users, please do reply to this, we love your feedback! What do you expect for being a active Digiex member?
Very good idea. Will get many people signing up and staying instead. I still don't get why they signed up and never posted when they could download anything with no need to sign up.
great idea nimrod. Seems like the most sensible way of getting people to stick around and post, lets just hope they don't post utter shite to get upto 30 posts. It's a bit like Xbox LIVE Gold and Silver packages, except we don't have to pay for gold
Insanenutter bought up the same concern and I found a solution. When we delete any posts which are spam, accounts receive negative "Reputation". The script which automatically upgrades users when they hit 30 posts ignores anyone with an overall negative Reputation. So they would have to earn back positive Reputation by posting useful posts and being helpful. So if they spam, they will only make it harder for themselves to ever get access. I think this is a fair system, as they will then need to "earn" the right if they go ahead spamming.
Once its fully launched, I intend to make an entire page (or thread, havent decided yet) talking about what a power user is and its benefits. For the time being, every registered member can see the power user forum with its link saying "[30 Posts Required, Click here for information] " but only power users can see the content. Anyone wanting to test if they are already a power user, click this link and if you can see the thread, your a power user and if you get a permissions error you are not: Click here to test This is what a non-power user but registered member would see: A guest (unregistered) would see nothing.
I joined Digiex the other day after seeing the NXE, and the community seemed great. I'll be sticking around this site, so this is a cool feature for members who are dedicated. However, I've seen other sites that do this and random people would join and create the needed posts in order to view the forum, and the posts were just spam, I mean "asdfghjkqwerty" type spam. Good luck with managing it. =)
Nimrod has the perfect solution in my opinion! ^^ That is very smart! Spam and they will not be able to get the privalliges...
I’m quite sure some people will be sad enough to do that unfortunately, however there not going to become a power user by doing that. We can just delete all the posts by that user and ban them with the click of a button so they would only be wasting their time.
I understand, but before on another site this guy spammed until he had access to the members board and them copy/pasted everything to his own site, and took credit. It had tutorials on host-booting and stuff for video games, quite useless, but nonetheless he had immoral judgment.
Great to see you stick around and post some good comments Jimbodawg. Check this thread out about someone who decided to clone our forums: https://digiex.net/backpage-news/572-join-fake-digiex-community-today.html. Also don't worry about people spamming. If I feel there's no reason to a post or the motivation behind such posts is to gain a higher post count I delete it. I'll be going over the whole forum this weekend for spam posts so if anyone loses Power User status they only have themselves to blame.
Thanks alot for letting me become a PowerUser! Woo, Will try get my Activity back now my plate isnt as full
Good Idea, this is the only forum I actually enjoy going on to post, the community is great and there is lots of useful info on here, great idea
nimrod how come it says privAte for me is it a glitch or something before i could see the content but now i cant
man that was a great idea i used to be a member on a rom forum site and it went down hill because people were just creating accounts and sharing them also watch bugmenot.com they give and share logins be sure to block your sites from them later
I think you half to wait for an admin to set your advanced member status. Though I'm not all that sure how it works. You might try logging out and then in. Then hit forum and see if you can see a forum called "Advanced Members Hideout."
