As part of the Whitelisting process which will be required in future before people can even join the server, we wanted to give users a quick set of rules, which should hopefully help players understand what is expected of them and avoid any confusion later on (as we have had a few times with cutting trees, mining abandoned buildings, stealing from chests etc). I was hoping if we could all comment and give feedback and make some new rules, we could come togeather with some sort of Community Rules, then hopefully convience Skeven or Strategia to finalize them in some well written (SMALL!) article to go on the Whitelisting process and the site. Ill start with my below ideas: Digiex.net Server Rules Access to the server is a privilege, not a right. As such when playing in a shared world with other users, its essential that some basic rules are followed to ensure everyone gets along. If any of them are broken, you could find your whitelist withdrawn, or even worse end up with a Global ban on McBans (Global Banlist). If you are ever unsure, its best to go on the side of caution, than to go ahead and get in trouble. 1. Players are expected to use COMMON SENSE when playing! This includes not building right next to somebody's building without asking, building something massive and dwarfing someone else's building without asking, generally peeing off other players. Advertising another server will lead to a global ban. If operators have to get involved in player disputes, their decision is final and if both players can't use their common sense it's likely that both parties will be kicked! 2. If players are found to be griefing (intentionally damaging other players property) then a permanent ban will be handed out, the same applies from stealing from players chests. As all block placement / removal is logged, as well as items going in and out of chest, it's very easy for us to track down any thefts or grief. It will be an instant global ban with no chance of winning an appeal. 3. No hacking please, it ruins gameplay for other users and its downright annoying to see people flying about the place when building or roleplaying, operators can see when you use flyhacks or speedhacks and are under instructions to ban people who use them. Again, this will be a global ban which will go against you on McBans. 4. Do not harass the operators in game. There is this forum, there are many players and there is Google. If you honestly cannot seek out your answer from any of those sources, then ask an operator. Operators get fed up of being asked constantly silly questions, job requests, how to craft items, worldedit, item spawning or to TP people. The answer is simply no. Only reports they are interested in, are grief or server errors. 5. Respect the landscape. If you need wood and need to cut down a tree, be considerate and cut down the entire tree. No one wants to see trees with one block left hanging in the middle of the air. If you cut down the entire stump then the leaves will despawn and the tree will be completely removed, then just replant a tree if you have any sapling. The same goes for Towers, no one wants the landscape covered with a small dirt or nether towers, if you need to build to such heights make sure theres a reason (attractive looking Sky Scraper). Otherwise your find your work removed, and access to the server withdrawn. 6. Bigotry, Racism, Homophobia will not be tolerated at all in the server chat, nor in the world, the same goes for any Nazi symbols. If the offence is minor and clearly meant as harmless banter, you may be served instantly with a final warning, the second offence will be bannable. If its deemed serious enough, you will just be instantly banned (or have your whitelist withdrawn).
I will begin the first draft of the Digiex Server Bible right now. Copies will be made available to all the admins, players can request the 300-page abbreviated edition, given two weeks for printing and shipping. =P Naw, but seriously. If PvP is on in Survival, here's 7. Even though PvP is on, do not abuse this privilege. Going around killing random people in the wilderness for no good reason is very near to griefing, especially if this causes significant item loss. Doing this, or repeatedly killing the same player, will be grounds for an official warning, and eventually a revocation of whitelist/global ban, depending on the severity. This does not apply to Minetopia.
I think we were planning a PVP toggle function. Now that you mention it, I'm wondering if that's on the tasklist for our current plugin project ... NOPE (, Chuck Testa) .... I'll be adding a request to the github now so it's not left out.
Agree, Especially the rule about 1x1 towers theyre really anoying, And if u take em down it will be considerd griefing.
As no one else seems to have a suggestion, I'll add some more of my own: Building Guidelines: There are no official server buildings, this includes spawn. The map is totally up to the making of the players and you can build where you like. However, to ensure the map is looked after, and to stop player disputes please following the below guidelines: Do not build near the Spawns. The maps are 3000 blocks in any directions from spawn, That's 6000 blocks from one side to another. We recommend players explore before picking a building spot. We don't want another Freebuild in our hands with everything right next to the Spawn Protection either, so we advise around 1000 blocks from Spawn is a good starting point. Islands should be treated almost like Lots. If someone has picked an island to build in, please do not go building on it also unless either they have invited you, or the island is beyond massive (ie a landmass) then please do so out of view from the other persons buildings. People shouldn't be able to see each others buildings from their own views. Group build projects are great, but make clear who is allowed to build on it and who is not. If you set it to public you cannot then claim grief when someone else adds to it in a way you dislike. We recommend the use of signs for claiming land, and saying if its Public / Friends / Private. This will keep all land dispute claims down. Do not claim land unless your using it. If you found a good spot, either use it or let someone else. The world is also not ever-growing therefore where possible keep all your buildings onto one or two islands, there is no need for someone to claim half the map. Be realistic with what you need, leaving space for others. Please respect the landscape, while your free to build what you please, this server is newbie-free so there's no excuse for a massive dirt building flying in the Sky. Please use the server to share your best buildings, not your dirt experiments. If you need to have for example tracks in the Sky, why not consider making it look professional and turn it into a good looking bridge instead of just a path of stone flying through the Sky. On each map, there is only 3 Strongholds. To ensure everyone gets to experience them they will remain public (Ie: no one can claim them). As such, besides making them accessible and fixing them up, they should be left how they are for all players to experience and enjoy. Anyone else have any good ideas for the offical rules at the top, or the building guidelines? Or any other guidelines that should be added. Now is the time to bring them up so we can finalize them and make them official.
Finalized the rules. These will be going official in the next few days if no one objects. Thanks to Strategia / Skeven for proof reading. Any feedback, please post below.
