major headache trying to upgrade dashboard. HELP !!!!!!

My brain is frying. lol.
I am having a similiar problem that others have been having and can't seem to get out of this eternal hell.
My old dash was 2.0.13599.0 and i have tried to uprade the dash to the 2.0.8955 and when i first do it on a blank dvd it seems to be going good and get the mixed media message in which i then turn off the power and power back up.
When it powers back up I dont get any update messages and the disk rereads and goes back to mixed media title.
I then tried it with the usb stick with format to fat 32 and the xbox doesn't read it at all.
Its driving me insane.
Any help would be much appreciated.

You are trying to downgrade there from what you say, thats why it will not work.

You can only upgrade and 13599 is the latest dashboard, 8955 is really old now.

You will always find it stuck at the top of the Dashboard Updates

I finally updated the dashboard but now I am locked out. Are there any solutions for this?

When i load in a back up game it tries to read it and then goes dark and I get can not read disc may be dirty etc.

It will play orig games but not the back up anymore.
I have been reading that a lot of people been having same prob.
