Its been reported on BBC News and other news sites around the country about this video posted by a Christian which talks about the growth of Islam.

Now as most people on Digiex know, I'm a strong believer in atheism and I do hope in 20 years time people without religion will be the majority, though as the video "claims" that is not the outcome expected.

Sites like BBC have been going through the facts, some are true, some seem a little twisted and some are unconfirmable (BBC News Article on this)

But the important things (reading through the slightly islamaphobic message on the video) is that despite my previous belief of people having too many children, we in western countries aren't producing enough to keep our culture alive. Is that a good thing? (The world is overpopulated some believe)

And is the change of a dominance of Christians to Muslims all that bad? (I mean, I personally believe there both not a positive influence).
 
Well this is quite an interesting topic and not the usual for Digiex. I hope it picks up and if it does, more discussions like this should be done!

It depends on what part of our culture you think is dying. Just because a religion is suddenly becoming more popular it doesn't mean our entire way of life is going to go down the toilet. A religion can expand all it wants, but it should not force people to change how they live or try to get laws from there own culture passed in another one. (Look at all the debates surrounding Sharia Law for example).

If an immigrant doesn't like the laws of the country he or she is moving to, they shouldn't move there in the first place. You adapt to the culture that you're moving to, not the other way around. Although I do think it is safe to say that no culture is going to, or will, last forever and all you can do is hope to move and shape it in a positive way.

Why do you feel that they are not positive influences? (I don't care for religion myself but it would be good to know other peoples views as to why they feel the way they do). Is it on a persons mind, society in general or something else? I don't think a change in dominance will be a problem to anyone, unless they start integrating there laws into ours, as I mentioned above.

If this mean Britain could one day ruled under Islamic law I think it could be a big problem in the future for anyone who doesn’t agree with Islamic ways, laws and punishments.

I’m not sure if that could / would happen but if it comes down to it I would sooner live in a country not ruled by religion.

Over the years, (using the UK as an example) many laws that the Goverment tried to introduce were attacked by people of the Church and pushed away and or delayed. For example, the age of consent or equal marriage rights for all. The Goverment tried to change this to make the country more fair and equal to all, yet the Church fought against both on the grounds of the Bibles Teaching. They didnt think once that maybe the people who /dont/ believe there rubbish would quite like the law to represent the people and not a few old idiots who still believe.

The church already has seats in the House of Lords which they shouldnt have, Although the house of lords has lost most of its powers it can still delay the goverment on any act by up to a year before the "Parliament Act" can be enforced allowing the house of commons to ignore the house of lords.

At the end of the day, my feeling for Religion is it should be something kept to peoples private lifes, if they want to believe in it, they can, but they should NEVER EVER try to force it on anyone, or try to use the Bible and their beliefs to try and rule over other peoples life. The Christians (As well as Muslims, Jews and the rest) should have zero say on how the laws of the country are done.
 
The US has to be the largest country ruled by Religion. It's all very crazy in my opinion. I remember on top gear them getting chased by a bunch of idiots all because of what they wrote on there truck / car. Outrageous. :S
 
whether you like religion or not it has had more to do with the way we think , the way our society is structured and probably the way our language has developed than any other factor.
i agrree with nimrod that religion should never be forced on anyone but then neither should unemployment , starvation , platform shoes and the mullet .
the you tube video - hmm. anything that says "some studies show" has to be viewed as iffy at best. And anyway britain was over run by angles - america by europeans - australia by europeans - south america by europeans etc. the world and its population is a very fluid thing. we have to wait and see.

I understand and agree with what you said in the other half of your post (didn't quote it in the interest of trying to keep my own post shorter) but the highlighted part of this quote isn't something that I think I can agree with. Everyone should be able to have a say in what laws or amendments are made but I do think that they should not be based around a religion and/or force people to think or act in a certain way if they are not harming anyone to begin with.

I see your USA and raise you a Saudi Arabia. A woman had her tongue cut out (by her father, of all people) and was then burnt alive for converting from Islam to Christianity. They also have a "religious police force" called the Mutaween (her father was a part of it) who enforce Sharia law and can carry judgement/punishments out on people who they think are breaking their laws. Outrageous offenses include being in possession of alcohol, being a homosexual or not being a Muslim. With these being the worst of crimes, I fail to comprehend how that country manages to function at all.

The first person that springs to mind when you say that is Bill O'Reilly. I've watched some clips from his show on YouTube and I think that he's probably one of the most irritating people I've ever seen in my life.

He is one of the most arrogant people in my opinion. He is the reason why I cannot stand Republicans like that. Don't get me wrong, I am not a Democrat that points fingers at Republicans and blames them for the country being the way it is right now. I am willing to admit that Democrats have had their share of blame in this country. Republicans are to blame for the most part, especially Bush. Need I say more....?
