So, with the Halo "trilogy" over and done with, rumours are starting to circulate that a new Halo game (other than Halo Wars and the Peter Jackson Project) is emerging. As we all probably know, Microsoft pulled the plug on a huge Bungie announcement at E3 earlier this year. I think it is undeniable that this would have been the announcement of a new Halo game. From what I've heard, the game is rumoured to be set during the second battle on Harvest, where the UNSC took back Harvest from the Covenant. You are rumoured to play a Marine in a squad of four. This would be very much in the style of the GRAW games. I guess my point is, what do you think will be the next Halo game? Where do you think the series can go from this point, and would you miss not being able to play as the Spartans? And most of all, what would you want to see from the game? Please discuss.
They pulled the plug only on the announcement not the game itself. Most likely to save it for another time, announcing that at E3 would have overshadowed everything else announced. All I do know is we cant expect "Halo 4" any time soon. Bungie have stated that the story arc is finished with and needs to rest. So like all the Halo themed games coming out, it will explore the Halo Universe. The rumours Munkymagic mention, seem quite possible, and very interesting too. I'm bored playing as the Master Cheif anyways (and never want to play as that Arbitor guy again).
Thanks for telling me. If anyone can find any links please post. I'm not big on halo but if it turns out to be something like Halo Wars, I'll buy.
Sorry yes, I should have clarified that, as Nimrod correctly states, it is only the announcement they pulled the plug on. Part of the reason Microsoft gave was that they thought they had enough good content to fill their slot, and they also think that Halo is a big enough franchise to host its own event (kind of like the QuakeCon). A link to why they cancelled from bungie.net is here Bungie.net : Inside Bungie : News
To be fair E3 was crap, they could of done with a decent announcement! Im looking forward to Halo Wars, but then im an RTS nut so kinda makes sense. Although I have to say, I think COD4 was better then Halo......
I kind of enjoyed the Halo3 multiplayer, I still play it from time to time when I have nothing special to do. I kind of agree with Nimrod, as I really wouldn't buy a Halo4 if they won't put some seriously major twists to the entire concept. Also I won't accept a whole new trilogy unless all 3 of them will be just as renewing as the very first Halo game. As fun as the games are, I just know they've marketed the thing more than enough, and that's the only reason why Halo3 sales exceeded Mario Bros 3..
I think Microsoft had some decent announcements for the 360, however nothing that exciting on the PC front really happened I don’t think. The multiplayer is top notch in Halo that’s the main reason I keep buying the Halo games, the story to me is nothing special... if anything I find the majority of it boring. If Halo 4 had some super interesting story I would love it... but let’s be honest I’m still going to buy it for the multiplayer no matter what
As far as Halo goes yes, I didn’t mind 4 player co-op as that was kind of fun.. I think I just get bored playing games like Halo by myself, multiplayer and co-op is a lot more interesting! I’ve almost completed Halo on Co-op and when I completed Halo 2 and 3 that’s only been on co-op never by my self... I guess it’s good games have co-op or I would never finish them!
Half Life 1 has Sven Co-op and I think they're making it for HL2, don't know if they've released it yet. When they do, you want to finally complete the game with me? How about Portal or any other major Valve game? They're all great, you should've completed them by now! Good thing Gears of War made co-op popular I guess. Otherwise InsaneNutter would never complete any games (shhhhh about me being slightly hypocritical in that statement repliers ).
It took me over a year but I completed Half Life 2 and Episode 1, I think I’m about half way through Episode 2 at the moment. Anyway were getting a bit off topic, I would probably miss not been able to play as the Spartans in another Halo game.
I didn't mind playing as the Arbiter (going invisible was a useful and fun feature) and if the new Halo game doesn't revolve around the Spartans or Master Chief, I won't be too bothered, as long as the story is good. TBH I liked the first Halo game because of the story, the 2nd for the multiplayer (some levels in the SP campaign were better than Halo 1, Library anyone?) and Halo 3 because of the Co-op and the way they made the levels fun for co-op (last level I will always remember ).
My source tells me that the next Halo game is being made by an indie studio in association with Bungie. Presumably in a similar fashion to the relationship enjoyed between R* Leeds and R* North in the production of the GTA:LCS game for PSP. Seems to me that Bungie are keen to push on to the developing social market of games, with the studio taking on the lead designer behind GRAW it's evidant that a move will be made in the direction of a tactical ops shooter, involving ODSTs (orbital drop shock troops.) I'd expect this game to tie in with the Halo games as a foundation for some back story, explaining progression elements that are not directly the result of Spartan efforts. Something similar to that mock live action Halo vid perhaps, with troops carrying out actions to support a spartan. The rumour of up to 8 player co-op play sounds promising, and I'm sure a very good game could be made shying away from the run and gun elements of the Halo trilogy, going for a gritty realistic yet scifi squad based shooter instead.
I would love to try Halo Wars, but having an RTS on a console, such as command and conquer. I just cant do it. I need a mouse and a keyboard. >.<
I think they managed to crack that game for XP and also Shadowrun for XP. If you ask Nimrod or InsaneNutter I think they could help you more on the matter keyONE.
