what is this minecraft i keep seeing things about? All i seem to see is 8-bit inspired art and a certain buzz surrounding it. but what IS it?

To sum it up in its most basic form (from the point of view of someone who's only played for a couple of hours) a sandbox game where you have the freedom to build what ever you want, with blocks!
