Do you have Windows Live Essentials installed? (Messenger, WLMail etc...) If you have, try to kill msnmsgr.exe and wlmail.exe from Task Manager. That helps sometimes for me.

Open Windows Task Manager, then click on processes. After that click show processes from all users, then click CPU, which will then show the programs that use the most CPU. Are there any programs that take a lot of the CPU?

CPU or Memory Usage, high numbers on both will slow computer down.

    CPU usage.jpg

He means just don't pay attention (so don't worry about that one) to that one because it's only saying you have a lot of resources free. As you can see I have system idle at the top, which means i'm usling not even half of the computers resources but right below that Java is taking about 30% of my computers CPU, this is because I have Minecraft running, which runs on Java. Do you have any other numbers under CPU that is high besides system idle?

You should add more memory to your computer or kill some processes that takes much memory.

What are the specs of your PC. Also when is the last time you've defragged your hard drive?

To speed up my computer, I usually delete my system registry and C: Drive. Helps all the time!

lol, I told someone the same thing recently :P

@ Fudge, try downloading GameBooster. It turns off all unnecessary processes so that your games run faster. I'd also recommend downloading some sort of "maintainence" program that you can use to remove cookies, defrag your HDD, etc. I personally use Advanced SystemCare Pro.

If you want to download and upgrade it feel free to use this info (from their official 5 year promo, not keygen ;)).

Then again, I don't know much about computers, so I have no idea if this program really works. My computer seems faster, but it may just be my imagination, lol.

You likely don't have enough free ram to run the game, you could possibly have more rubbish starting with your PC since you last re started it.

Knowing your system specs and having a screenshot of the performance tab in task manager might help us to help you.

a few things you can try are the built in tools in windows like Disk Cleanup under accessories/system tools that will help, also when was the last time the fans in the system have been cleaned because dust build up = extra heat and lagging/slow performance, its good to buy a can of static free air and have the system off and blow the dust out of the case (or in my case the laptop fan vents) most the time were the dust builds up in a desktop is behind the fan on the cpu heat sink or there can be a problem with you video card I have had a fan on my card stop working so it was over heating and giving me problem's, and on laptops its on the inside of the fan vent and to get them clean you have to push the air from the back of the vent forward in to the fan,

Try uninstalling some programs that you don't use that often. That will free some space on your hard drive.

Also look at background programs running. If you don't need it at the moment right click it and exit it.
Sometimes in the settings (of that program) you can make it so that it doesn't start when windows boots up.

Another thing is that the program that interacts with your graphics card (Nvidia Radeon Etc.) you can change you graphics for performance.

Also I find that sometimes when I watch videos online with Firefox it lags up, so when that happens use Safari or I.E

As for processes you can stop all the one that relate to iTunes, you can also end one call spoolsv.exe for that's only for printing.

    Hope that helps.

Get yourself a free trial of the newest version of Tuneup Utilties. It automatically defrags, deletes temporary files, cleans up un-needed registry entries and things of the sort. On top of that it has a program "de-activator", which disables programs when you're not using them, on top of that there's a turbo mode, which disables windows effects and and un-essential services, in an effort to free up RAM and CPU time.

Oh also, be sure to run a hard drive scan, bad sectors can really bog down windows.
