What's going on with this. I tried it on someone's pc to see if their HDD is working and when I went to install the updates I just keep getting a error. What's going on?
 
What error do you get? screenshots? more info?

I believe if its a pirated copy of Windows XP it will disable Windows Update.

Also download SP3 from the MS website if its not integrated in to the disc, after that has installed try Windows Update again.
