I purchased an Xbox 360 hard drive form Gamestop and discovered it didn’t allow backward compatibility. It wouldn’t play Halo 2 (or any other games on the compatibility list). I even reformatted it on the console. No dice. So, I took it out and connected it to my PC and, using Xplore 360 Extreme2, discover there is no partition 2.

Partition 2 is the partition that holds the Original Xbox emulation software. Not only is there no partition 2, there is no partition 0, or 3, only a “partition 1”. Online posts only seem to reference 0, 2, and 3 partitions. No “1” partition.

All I want is to get backwards compatibility on my Xbox 360. I’ve looked at several posts but am not achieving any success. After reformatting the HD via the Xbox menu Xplore wouldn’t recognize the drive until I enabled NT compatibility. I’m on XP.

I downloaded a .bin file image of partition 2 and have attempted to “restore” it. The program appears to be working except the meter doesn’t move. I let it run for several hours. Nothing.

I suggest you return the drive and tell them that original xbox games don't work.

    endless restoring of partition2

i have windows7 pro 32-bit. i also had the endless restoring problem with partition2. i even tried booting win7 in safe-mode. luckily, my old, untouched, and fully working XP machine was in the closet. no problems restoring partition2 there.

my win7 machine defaults to AHCI SATA. of course, i set that to ATA to do the initial hddhackr stuff. when i finished that and was ready to do the part2 restore, i returned it to AHCI (otherwise, win7 will choke on boot and vomit blue all over the screen). i suspect AHCI (or anything other than ATA) SATA operation is the cause of the problem. unfortunately, if your OS (XP, 7, any windows) was installed with SATA operation set to AHCI, it won't boot if you change SATA operation to ATA.

if i didn't have an extra computer with hard-drive in it ready to boot to windows, i would have tried booting my win7 machine to a BARTPE cd and running xplorer360 from that (with SATA set to ATA). if that didn't work, i would taken all the drives out of my win7 machine, installed and old, unused drive, set SATA to ATA, and installed WinXP just to make this work without dumping my current, perfectly good win7 install on my normal hard-drive. just fyi...

Ok so I had purchased a unofficial xbox 360 hard drive and it does not have the backwards compatibility, but does work with the xbox. I am trying to get the partition 2 here copied on there so that I can play the original xbox games. When I have the HDD hooked up to my computer and I run Xplorer 360 and go to drive, open, harddrive or memcard it thinks for a second and then it gives me an error saying that it could not find a FATX drive to open. WTF?

Running as admin doesn't make a difference, it just takes longer for it to give me the same error message.

Should the xbox drive show up in my computer, or will windows now recognize it there?

I had actually done the format on the xbox right when I got it, before trying to restore the partition. It formatted fine.

Did a reformat on the drive in the 360, still not showing up in xplorer360. Currently I have it in a external hdd case and it still is not showing up in xplorer360!

hmmm, figured it out. My SATA ports must have been turned off in the BIOS when I redid my computer......

    Good to go now! Thanks!

Just regged to say BIG THANKS for this! I have the Slim 4gb version and bought a 250gb hdd from some custom company for half the price, without knowing that it wouldn't solve my xbox-emulating problems. Thought it was a disc problem, so got it cleaned, still error. Google'd some more and came to the conclusion that the harddrive itself was the problem, got mad, and then found this! Plugged the hdd in to the computer via SATA without any problem, did exactly as guide told me (though after the restoration, the Xplorer360 application crashed), AND IT WORKED! I'm now playing my beloved SSX3 on my 360! Thanks a bunch!

Before connecting the harddrive to the computer, I did a format on the xbox of the hdd.

People are getting lazy with hacking & selling these drives,it only takes 1-2 minutes to transfer partition 2.

Do I need HDDhackr for this to work or just the partition and Xplorer360?

If you can store things on the hard drive such as downloadable content, game saves, ect, then you don't need hddhackr.

    Hi everyone! I Just registered!

I have the same problem. Xbox slim 4gb + non official 60gb hdd. I have KOTOR 1 and 2 here and I would love to play them both, but I am afraid of hacking the hdd (I play a lot with my friends on live, and I REALLY don want to get banned)...

Doing this hack will get me banned?

Do I need to format my hdd to add that partition to it?

Sorry for the bad grammar, I'm a gamer from Brazil and my English grammar is kind of poor.

Please help me everyone, I LOVE star wars and not being able to play these two awesome games is eating me alive hahaha :)

    Abraços!!
