Xbox One XVD Signing Keys

What an XVD is
XVD (Xbox Virtual Disk) = a secure container format.
Used for games, apps, system components, DLC, updates.
Mounted by the Xbox OS like a virtual drive.
Encrypted + integrity-checked.

What XVD signing keys do
They provide cryptographic trust
Authenticity – proves the XVD was produced by Microsoft or an authorized publisher.
Integrity – prevents modification after signing.
Execution gating – unsigned or improperly signed XVDs will not mount or run on retail consoles.
If the signature fails → the Xbox OS rejects the disk.
Types of keys (conceptually)
Production (Retail) Keys
Used for shipped games and system software.
Never public. Never usable by end users.
Development / Test Keys
Used on Dev Mode / test kits.
Limited scope, sandboxed, not valid on retail environments.

How they are used (legitimate workflow)

Only through official tooling
Build content using the Xbox Game Development Kit (GDK).
Package assets into an XVD.
XVD is signed by Microsoft infrastructure (or via approved partner pipelines).
Console verifies signature using embedded public keys.
If valid → XVD mounts and runs.
Developers never directly handle private signing keys.

What you cannot do
Sign your own XVDs for retail consoles.
Extract or recreate Microsoft signing keys.
Convert unsigned content into “retail-valid” XVDs.
Bypass signature checks without exploiting the OS (which is illegal and patched).

Based on exploits that no longer work
What you can do legally
Use Xbox Dev Mode for homebrew/UWP testing.
Build and deploy apps using official SDKs.
Reverse-engineer the format for research (without bypassing security).
Analyze XVD metadata and layout without signing or mounting on retail hardware.

XVD signing keys are root-of-trust keys for Xbox content.
They exist to prevent piracy and tampering.
They are not obtainable or usable outside Microsoft’s ecosystem.
Any “how-to sign XVDs” outside official channels = invalid or illegal.
