there is so much hype at the moment about swime flu and what it is and cures etc , ill clarify some stuff up ..:)

first of all the swine flu originated from pigs in mexico , and it has spread to more countrys around the world.

secondly , there is NO known cure yet for the virus , ALSO the swine flu is ment to be like cancer , it causes tumours and extreme vomiting and attacks your cells :(

thirdly , there has been deaths in portual atm at thats all that as been death confirmed they dont know if ireland or england have it yet , but they defintly know that scotland have it , :(

last but not least , dont let this swine flu outbreak scare you at all because the chances of you getting it are really slim so dont panic :D BUT still be cautionate. and i dont know any symtoms atm sorry:(

The wikipedia article Swine Influenza states that the "outbreak in most cases causes only mild symptoms and the infected person makes a full recovery without requiring medical attention". The symptoms can range from "chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness and general discomfort". Chances are that if you get it, you'll make a full recovery. Sounds like its been blown way out of proportion, just like the SARS, Bird Flu and Anthrax threats from a few years back.

The Google Map created by Biomedical Research and is one of the fastest ways to track the spreading of the virus.

Presuming its accurate were still on 3 cases in the UK, a lot more look to have appeared over America.

    Indeed.

I remember been a bit worried about bird flu and sars as the media made out the world as we knew it was going to end.

They allways go over the top with everything. The map idea is good. If the symptoms are correct, im sure it wont be hard to make a cure.

    Damn!

With all the ailments I have already, this crap doesn't bother me. Plus all the medications I take will block this. (H)

I think the media is worried about the virus mutating into something more deadly which isn't unheard of (Spanish Flu: 1918 flu pandemic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). The fact that it's spreading from human to human is worrying. But so does the common cold and that mutates quite frequently. Thankfully not into some virulent form so here's hoping the same can be said for Swine Flu.

The media always try and stir up a panic, first it was AIDS, then it was SARS, then bird flu, now swine flu.
I'm apathetic towards anything the media says now.

Frankly, the only disease I would ever worry about becoming a pandemic is Ebola. If that got on a plane most of us would be dead within a few weeks.

It's being called N1H1 here in NZ now...

    Does that stand for anything?

I don’t think it stands for anything meaningful, a sort of code for the strain of virus I would guess?

Bird flu had a similar name, H5N1 if I recall correctly.

At first I thought this but then I think about that people have actually died from this. With even one death there is no way (in my opinion) that it could be blown out of proportion.

I don't think it's blown out of proportion at all.
    Well, not anymore at least.

Everyone I know actually seems to have forgotten it completely.

Same, the media made a massive deal about it for a few weeks as you would expect... I had forgotten about it until I read this thread.

In the news again this morning. 45 new cases at a primary school. Considering we were at 112 or sommet that's over 25% new cases!

You can die from the regular flu as well. See here for more info.
