    Hey,

Just got a PS3 Slim and just wondering, can you jailbreak it, is it safe to do that (without Sony lurking around the corner!) and what can you do afterwards after jailbreaking?

You could try to ask at PS3hax.net but be aware that those guys while helpful sometimes they derail topics and aren't very respectful towards each other (Gregory Rasputin being a staff member should avoid it but he contributes to it).

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. Gregory is notorious for that, I would honestly avoid that site. I do however recommend PS3Crunch for help though, they have a really nice community over there. Also, what firmware is that PS3 on? And with a jailbroken PS3 you can use emulators, have a media player that can even run MKV and play backups of PS3 games straight from a hard drive as well.

You probably will get banned sooner or later depending on what you end up doing.

What firmware version is the PS3 on? if you have updated within the last few year you will not be able to jailbreak without a hardware flasher.

Playing on PSN with a CFW is never a good idea. I've done it a few times but that was before Sony really checked for CFW. There are firmwares that don't use syscalls that a CFW normally would so it's apparently 'safer' than using regular CFW but I don't know if there are reported bans from using it. In other words, you'll never be completely safe online with CFW, use at your own risk.

But can you still play GAMES when you are banned? Or do you REALLY need PSN to play games in the first place?

You can play games offline if banned, just not online.
