I would think if one did nothing but install the drive without taking additional cooling measures then sure...i'd expect it to melt down. I took the time to attach a 60x60x25 sunon maglev to the HDD bay cover after knocking a few fins out. i'm still debating which direction to have it work...- fubar569

i can already vouch for the difference in load times in Mass Effect 2 using a stock 20gb drive and the velociraptor. it's certainly noticeable. i will swap drives back & forth soon to deliver real benchmarks- fubar569

AND i forgot. IF you follow this method and drop the factory connector lower for fitment...you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE A STOCK 360 Slim HDD CASE for a regular drive UNLESS you READD the bottom rubber back to raise the connector to the proper level.- fubar569

...With a bit of work ;) it's NOT a plug & play affair. you MUST wire in a 12v source to the HDD. My method managed to retain the stock power/data connector. I split the rubber cover and peeled away the hot glueish base around the physical SATA power connector. It's all standard parts here...- fubar569

On the heels of my last thread. Does anyone have a pinout/disassembly/close up pics?
does not show me what the solder points on the board would be. although if they follow the same pattern on the underside i can guestimate. since i will not be using kinect for the forseeable future this is another option for a power source. thanks for that link.- fubar569

I do now. Tore apart my slim for the first time. people weren't lying when they said the final clip was a bitch. I probed the connector while powered up and found the following. the DVD power connector Pinout appears unchanged. pin 6 is still 3.3v, 8 is still 5v, and 10 & 12 are still 12v...- fubar569

...of the new slim motherboard? I'm specifically looking for a location to draw 12v from. i need about ~750mA or about ~3w peak for the drive & a fan. i can only trace 4 wires going to the HDD power connector from the mobo connector so i assume by SATA standards these would be 5v, 3.3v, and 2...- fubar569

Has anyone used a Velociraptor for HDD on 360?
Stated in the tutorial that it's supported. i'm a speed junkie. if it indeed will work i'd keep an eye out for one. Otherwise the 250gb blacks will be just fine.- fubar569
