Red Alert 3 is now out: To buy or not to buy with DRM?

I just noticed that Red Alert 3 is out in the USA today, and in Europe this friday. Its already appearing all over torrent sites prooving DRM is totally useless.

The big question is, do you intend to buy it and support DRM or boycott it and even go as far as pirating it?


I've owned every C&C since day one, legally. This is the first one I am not buying as I refuse to be limited to 5 installs. Yes 5 installs may seem like a lot, but over the life of all my over C&C's they have easily been installed / removed over 5 times, and for half of them the online part has been taken offline. So what happens with this new C&C in 5 years time when I want to install it again, DRM servers turned off, reached my 5 time limit?? I refuse to spend money supporting them.

Thats why I'm going to download it, and openly as well. Because I intend to play it as and when I want. I was tempted to buy it, then just crack it so I am supporting the game developers and also getting around DRM but then I thought by paying for the game, I am supporting the DRM on it and that I can never do. If lots of people boycott it for this reason, EA will continue to see the damage like they did with Spore and think again. I urge everyone to pirate it, theres always Hamachi for online play.

No worries man. I will! Hopefully it will be on there for both PC and 360! I will only buy this if it is really good. Supporting the DRM though. Does make you want to make everyone pirate it instead of supporting it hopefully they will release a patch and remove it.
 
I’m going to boycott the entire thing. Limiting the number of times that your customers can install a product that you’re marketing is counter productive and completely unnecessary. The only thing DRM will do, if anything would be to decrease the overall sales. It’s the main thing that put me of getting a copy of Spore as well.

I also don’t care for the C&C games that much anymore because after three different series (including Generals), along with numerous expansion packs I feel that anything significant has already been done with the game and this one isn’t going to offer anything that actually makes it worth buying.
 
Yeah go for it, they need to realise DRM is not the way forward.
Surely they will have learnt from the mistake of Spore already.
 
My plan of action is to download the game and then when EA comes to their senses and drops the DRM, buy it. Hopefully by then the game will be cheap as well :D
 
If anyone wants to have a game together, just PM me. I got mine installed yesterday and it's workin fine!

If your using torrents make sure you torrent client is configured correctly, e.g. ports opened and upload speed limited so it’s not using all your upload bandwidth.

Public torrents are never going to be fast as people don’t share back and most people who do can download way faster than they can upload, however on private sites you could max out a 100mbit connection easy... but that’s going way off topic.

Unlike the beta we can’t put this download on the Digiex FTP for obvious reasons, were not a warez board.

I’m guessing you downloaded it and its loads of small files?

Download Winrar and install it

Then extract the rar files

Use a program like Deamon Tools to mount the cd image (extracted from the rar files) and install, then copy the crack across to the folder where you installed the game.

Its kind of hard to explain if we don’t know what you’re stuck on, If there’s some part in particular let me know.
 
God Im not at home so I got my sister to start the download. Hope it's going well... Cant wait to play it! Such a good game..
