Hey guys. I just today aquired a 360 that doesn't show video nor audio. It's pre HDMI and the disc drive was even flashed. After it boots it instantly shows 3 rings and makes no attempt to show a boot screen, nor error screen. Anyone know if it's possible to get one of these things working again?

See what your secondary error code is as rick says. The problem is likely a cold solder joint between either the cpu / gpu, you can try three things to fix that.

Replacing the Xclamps would be the easiest to do at home, however usually consoles that have that done fail again within a couple of months. If you Google you will find many stories from it working for a couple of hours, to a couple of months. Think of it as more of a temp fix.

Good tutorial on that here: Llamma's Xbox 360 3RLOD (three red light error) X-Clamp Fix

    Xclamp Fix:

Reflow: The next best fix, the console should be pretty reliable after that.

Reball: Permanent fix by all accounts, pretty extreme but ive heard nothing but good things about it.

If you look about on sites like Xbox-Scene many people specialise in doing Reflows / Reballs, you could try the Xclamp fix first, then if the console fails again see if you think its worth paying someone to reflow / reball it.

Most 360's are repairable, depends on the consoles history. If someone has already replaced the x-clamps you would have to get it re flowed / re balled.

Could be a good console to fix up if it has one of the old DVD drives in, no AP 2.5 to worry about so would be good for playing all the 360 games that will leak weeks early in the future. Not that i support piracy, but i have nothing against playing games early.

Not exactly sure if it's still flashed as M$ updates can screw it over now. I also don't support piracy but would love to play games early.

0102unknown error - literally means the console does not know what is wrong. Possibly a short or cold solder joint somewhere (2 reports of people repairing this, one was removing moisture build up inside the console, the other used a hot-air rework to reflow the BGA Ram chips)

Can't fit more text on my PS3. So I needed a new post.

I went into Kinect video chat to show my friend the secondary codes as I know he'd think it's cool. I show him my status code and was obviously surprised about it. A few minutes later I turned off the console. I forgot why but I turned it on by pressing eject on the disc drive. It blinked 4 lights but never went to three, so being intrigued I plug in an AV cable. The dashboard succesfully boots. The dashboard is on 8955 and is still flashed. I know there is still a problem as after a few minutes the 360's fan speed up. So I think i'll do a reflow as reball seems a bit too drastic as the 360 does boot.

I heard there are the updated dashboards that don't force a flash to be removed. Sorta sucks though as I don't what version was flashed on the drive, NBA 2K10 was in the drive though. The disc drive is a Hitachi.

I did clean some of the dust, I could get a bit more dust off if I tried but the 360 got 2 red rings within 10 minutes so I think an X-clamp + thermal might work.
