Is there room for a fourth games console? A question that is often asked and one which is usually met with objections based on development time, cost and user base but what if someone snook in through the back door so to speak, would anyone see them and would it be such a suprise to those that have been watching carefully.
The reason for the initial question is that next week Apple will hold an event in San Francisco to unveil its much rumoured iSlate device to a waiting and wanting press gathering but for the first time some of the more renowned gaming press have also been invited to the event in what is a first for Apple. Now this may only be something which Apple feels is necessary due to the success of its iPhone and the growing user base of gamers or it could be that the new iSlate has something else to offer that may just appeal to gamers looking for something a little different than the current generation of consoles. It has been thought for many months by Apple purists that any new touch device would run a similar O.S. as the iPhone but with more horsepower available to a new handheld machine then true gaming that we know at the moment could become more of a reality for Apple.
Also confirmed by this Fox News report is that the event will also debut the new Apple O.S. 4 for iPhone, whether this will be a demo or if it will be released after the event remains to be seen and if the rumours are true then we could see true multitasking with background apps and more of a palm computer OS coming to iPhones, something which other mobile operators have achieved but Apple dodged due to battery life issues.
