With default controller ATA device wasn't found.

Managed to flash using the JMICRON 363 ATA controller in IDE Mode. (CYAN connectors at the edge of the board)

Depending on your motherboard it will tell you in the BIOS configuration options, the manual / specification sheet of your motherboard will also tell you. (can usually be downloaded on the manufactures website).

You can also probably get a good idea from within windows if you look at device manager like so, although some motherboards have two different SATA chipsets for the various SATA ports, so one chipset might work with Hddhackr, and one might not.

I assume where you said some might have multiple sata chip sets for the various ports, that you're referring to desktops> < I checked for the most part my laptop has, Intel 8 series sata ahci controller.. This is the one that would not let me boot hddhackr from the flash drive with legacy enabled, it does say in bios that i cant turn off ahci, it does let me switch from legacy to "crap cant remember" whatever else there is

    Yes I was.

Laptops have very limited BIOS options, you might not have any luck using a new ish laptop. I used an old Netbook from 2008 to do my recent 500gb drive, i had no luck at all with my modern PC.

Try switching to an IDE mode if you have one!

Worked for me on Gigabyte GA-8IPE775 (rev. 1.0) with a Pentium 4 HT 3.0 on FreeDOS 1.3.

Set the SATA port used to an IDE Master drive not Slave in the BIOS, HDDHACKR.EXE only showed the Masters not Slaves (did offer to flash my dvd-rom drive though!)
